Book Review: His Redneck Girl by Lindsey Brookes

I want to thank NetGalley and the author for providing me with an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

Book Blurb:

Book 1 in the Possum Hollow Series

Jimmie Joe Johnson has spent years living up to his hound dog reputation. If he can’t have the one female he truly wants, then any female will do. When he isn’t off diddlin’ some female, he’s practicing for pool playoffs, determined to get his pool team to Vegas. Not only for bragging rights, but for the free trip to ‘Sin City’ and cash prize that comes along with it.
Baylee Jean Brown has never gotten over her first and only love, Jimmie Joe Johnson. So when she discovers the truth about why he really ended things with her all those years before, she sets out to get her man back. And no other thigh-parting female is going to stand in her way. She just has to find a way to make him take notice of her, considering he’d been avoiding her since that day her spell-threatening aunt (yes, she does come from a long line of witches), threatened to place his man-parts in a jar on her windowsill.
Avoiding Baylee Jean Brown in a town the size of Possum Hollow is hard enough, but all of the sudden she’s dressing sexy and aiming all that female heat in his direction. He tries to convince her that she’s better off without him, but how can he expect her to listen to reason when his own heart and body refuse to? Now his man-parts are in a whole different kind of danger. Not because her aunt might still carry through with her threat to pickle them, but because he knows no other woman will ever do.

“Irreverent, bawdy, laugh out loud funny. The most hilarious book I’ve read in years–maybe ever! In fact, I’m pretty sure this book is the reason the term “ROFLMAO” was invented. If you combined Jeff Foxworthy’s humor and Jason Stackhouse’s good looks and libido, you’d end up with Jimmie Joe Johnson, one smokin’ hot hound dog and one hilarious read!” –New York Times bestselling author C.L. Wilson

(*previously released in digital format by Kensington Publishing under the title Jimmie Joe Johnson: Manwhore. Changes have been made to the cover and the story.)

*This tongue-in-cheek redneck romance is set in the fictional town of Possum Hollow, Alabama. This storyline is for entertainment purposes, not to reflect on any actual persons living in that state. It’s recommended for readers 18 years and older.

Review: I give this book 5 out 5 Redneck Stars!

Omg! This book was so hilarious! Born and raised since a lil girl with my best Sunday Frock so I am deep down kind of country. Well let me set this straight, I am actually a metal head but was born in the country in South Carolina and my family is what a lot of people would call “Rednecks”.

I can tell y’all how I raised up yonder on the country roots wit my frock, grits, sweet tea and was use to my kin speakin’ wit an axent but I betta keep it on the hush, hush instead of y’all city slickers learnin I’m a ninny.

Sorry lovelies, I had a sleepless night and went to childhood talk. So the cat is out of the bag, I could totally relate to this story because I have seen Redneck fun and craziness too many times! Half of my family is country pure and through, the other part I am asian and spanish. So growing up on a lane with all your kin and they are country as hell, trust me you see some things.

I loved this book because it reminded me of good parts of my childhood and heck people down the road from me now. I was able to laugh at how funny “rednecks” can be and I loved the romance in this story. Around where I live, it’s not out of the ordinary to hear someone talk with that kind of accent or see someone with a possum as a pet. Also southern people get mad about the whole “opossum” thing but I am starting to ramble on. I loved the characters in this book! I thought they were hilarious and realistic. To some they may not be realistic, but to me they are very much so. This book even had a little bit of mystery to it that intrigued me in the beginning. The author made me laugh until I cried while reading this story! I also really enjoyed the romance in this novel and felt the story was quite original. His Redneck Girl by Lindsey Brookes is a story that I soon won’t forget! Yee-haw!

  1. Haha…oh man, just came home and starting up WordPress again, and I already had to laugh again. These gifs you provided for this review were just seriously too funny! Haha, you really outdid yourself for this one. Of course the review itself was awesome too. Don’t really know if it’s a book that’s really for me, but that doesn’t mean that I’m dismissing it. And cool: a metalhead! I love metal too (although I have to say that music currently is on a very low priorities list lol). Terrific post…but what am I saying all your posts are amazing, and so are you 😊😊
