Book Review: Mad Librarian by Michael Guillebeau

I want to thank NetGalley and the author for providing me with an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

Book Blurb:

Half of all profits go to the Awesome Foundation for Library Innovation.

“This book is truly every librarian’s dream come true. After fighting budget battles over and over again, librarian Serenity has lost her library funding. What’s a librarian gonna do? How about ripping off the city that’s ripping off its citizens? Serenity begins helping herself to the funds that local politicians have been setting aside for their own personal “rainy day “. With the money she amasses she can build a library to thrill readers everywhere. Problem is, those politicians aren’t too thrilled to see their money disappearing and they plan to do anything to get it back. Why in the world are libraries always under threat? A funny, moving story of our most precious institutions under threat.” –Cayocosta72 Reviews

Review: I give this book 3 out of 5 MAD Stars! This book had big potential to be a 5 starred book for me. I liked this book and the premise of the story but there was things I didn’t enjoy as well. Pretty much the best way I could review it is by saying the premise was amazing but the author poured it on a little too thick. Some parts of this book I was laughing hysterically, other parts I was annoyed by the main character. I felt the story was overdone a little and could have done with a little less “MAD” shall we say.

I did like this book overall and felt it had amazing potential but this isn’t something I would read again. I am interested in reading the author’s future works because of the potential. I also loved that this author wrote this for a good cause and I definitely hate the lack of funding for our libraries! I give the author kudos for going for this book and having a really creative idea.

Hope everyone has an AMAZING day! You guys rock!🤘💖📚

  1. I came SO close to requesting this (hmm. I wonder why?) but held back because I’m trying so hard to to up my NetGalley ratio. After reading your very fair review, I’m glad I did. It’s frustrating when an author comes up with a clever idea, but takes it too far. If my library winds up getting this, I may check it out, but otherwise I think I can do without it.🤗

  2. I haven’t been to a library in ages. But that’s because these days I just buy the books I want lol. Strange though, as in the past I went to the library every single week, usually coming home again with way too many books (Hmm…actually now I come with way too many books too, only they are a little bit less kind on my wallet lol).
Too bad this book didn’t quite live up to your expectations. It’s still a fantastic review you wrote again though, and that Simpsons gif is just way too funny😂😂😂 Keep up the great work and writing 😀😀😀

    • I agree Lashaan! This one had so much potential but the gravy was way too thick resulting in an “okay” book for me. I have one I’m trying to read right now that I loved the premise but it’s so sllloooowww. So I have to read others to keep my mind off of it.
