Book Review: The Lost King by Michael Cuell

I want to thank Michael Cuell for providing me with a print copy of The Lost King in exchange for an honest review. All opinions and views expressed are my own. I appreciate this opportunity.

I know I have posted a good bit of reviews up today dudes and dudettes but I swear I’m not reading like a speed demon. I am trying to catch up on reviews from the last few weeks or so and this one I was super excited about so I had to share especially because I usually don’t pick up a book based on this time period! Thank the heavens that I said yes to this author request!

Review: I give this book 5 out of 5 Medieval Stars! Michael reached out to me about The Lost King and at first I was a little hesitant. I mean honestly its been a while since I read a novel based on this time period and really enjoyed it, but I thought “What the heck, if I don’t click well with it I can be honest with the author and say I tried my best but this is as far as I got.” Well little did I know that I was about to embark on an incredible adventure!

I quickly became deeply invested in Arundel and felt like I was able to travel along with him. This book was Michael’s debut and it was AMAZING! I started reading it and figured I could read it here and there along with my other books. Well lets just say that was impossible and in no time I was completely engulfed in the main character‘s world. This medieval fantasy had it all; it had adventures, deep characters, tragedy, romance, historical elements, drama and twists and turns!

Mr. Cuell hooked my imagination from page one and I didn’t want to let go! My only complaint is that there was no dragon and I’m a sucker for dragons but that’s not really a complaint. Hehe. Also this is only book one so hopefully a dragon is in store for us next but if not I’m sure it will still be epic! Lol.

This book is definitely one epic fantasy adventure! *Highly Recommended*

So where do I begin?

Telling the story of a character seems so easy compared to telling the brief story of yourself. Well if you don’t count paper rounds I have worked since I was fifteen years old and have been in full time employment since I was seventeen, straight after I finished A-Levels. But that is the boring stuff. I have a beautiful wife and an even more beautiful daughter and they inspire me to pursue this dream in the hope we can share in it together.

What about the person behind the keyboard?

Well, I have always been someone who is passionate about things and it has often been said that if I am passionate about something, then I am 100% all in. My passion for Crystal Palace FC is the biggest example of that, my club is my heart, my blood is red and blue and has been since age six. My day is influenced by the results and I have a ridiculous list of superstitions that I know are rubbish, but hell I do them anyway because I can’t help it!

I love films, I am a massive geek. If it’s Batman, I’m sold. I don’t do plain, everything I have is novelty because I wear my passions on my sleeve as it were.

I have a memory that forgets when I need to do something like get a card, but I can remember the name of every Marine in Aliens!

I am certainly a strange one, no doubt about it.

I have always had a creative mind, ever since I can remember. If I am interested in something, there is no limit to my minds creativity. My problem is I have never been good at putting that creativity into a practical form, at least not until now. I hope that my book(s) will finally give my mind its platform to shine and enable me to share with the world a little insight into me.

As a boy I loved to read. I love to live out every page of a good book and place myself into the heart of the story. As I have grown and my imagination has grown, I have found I am not always satisfied. If one of my favourite characters dies, such as Ned Stark, I never really get over it. Or if I feel characters could have done something differently or something more, I will be left feeling short changed. Writing my own book enables me to change that. It enables me to tell a story how I want it told, but in a way that I feel people will enjoy. Naturally not everyone will, we are all such different people after all, but hopefully my imagination will capture the eye of others and bring them the joy that so many books over the years have given me.

Awesomeness😊 I just said over on Kim’s blog that I already have a new years resolution and that is trying to make a dent in my to read list that grew exponentially because of you two lol.😂 This sounds like another wonderful read. Your enthusiastic review for it, made it happen again: I want to read this now. I also loved the small biography of the author. It was just a wonderful read that makes him seem like a wonderful human being. Hmm…sounds like someone I know that goes by the name of Dani 😍😊 Great post again, and I of course added this one to my list again 😂

  12. No dragons?! No way! Pretty cool to see a fantasy novel pop up after quite some time (or maybe it was the first one a very long while? I can’t tell anymore hahaha) So glad you still enjoyed this so much, Dani!!! Do hope there’s dragons in the next book! For Dani’s sanity! 😀
