I want to thank NetGalley and the publishers for providing me with an eARC in exchange for an honest review. I appreciate this opportunity! I am catching up on reviews and working on my layout and thought it would be wise to group some together on one post. Bare with me I am new to all this customizable stuff! Lol. These three reviews are for three seperate bookish cozies. Cozy mysteries are perfect for this time of year and a great way to relieve the holiday blues. I hope you guys enjoy my reviews and have a fantastic day!
A Murder for the Books by Victoria Gilbert
Fleeing a disastrous love affair, university librarian Amy Webber moves in with her aunt in a quiet, historic mountain town in Virginia. She quickly busies herself with managing a charming public library that requires all her attention with its severe lack of funds and overabundance of eccentric patrons. The last thing she needs is a new, available neighbor whose charm lures her into trouble. Dancer-turned-teacher and choreographer Richard Muir inherited the farmhouse next door from his great-uncle, Paul Dassin. But town folklore claims the house’s original owner was poisoned by his wife, who was an outsider. It quickly became water under the bridge, until she vanished after her sensational 1925 murder trial. Determined to clear the name of the woman his great-uncle loved, Richard implores Amy to help him investigate the case. Amy is skeptical until their research raises questions about the culpability of the town’s leading families… including her own. When inexplicable murders plunge the quiet town into chaos, Amy and Richard must crack open the books to reveal a cruel conspiracy and lay a turbulent past to rest in A Murder for the Books, the first installment of Victoria Gilbert’s Blue Ridge Library mysteries.
I give “A Murder for the Books”5 out of 5 Cozy Stars! I loved this fun and bookish cozy mystery! I am always drawn to books that are book related in some way and it makes me feel proud to be a bibliophile. This book intrigued me from the very first line, “Anyone who claims there are no stupid questions has never worked in a library.” I could relate to this sentence because I am a member of my local Friends of the Library Association and so I do volunteer work at the library, book sales and etc. I also volunteer at a small local bookstore when my body is able and receive new books as payment! Which is awesome! I have been asked some crazy questions to say the least. I loved the characters in this book and thought they were well written. At one point, I thought the book was a bit slow but the surprising twists and everything else made up for it resulting in my 5 star rating. I also loved how descriptive this book was with the historic town!😁 I definitely recommend this cozy!💖📚
Death by a Whisker by T.C. LoTempio
Getting used to life back home in Deer Park, North Carolina, Sydney McCall and her right-hand tabby, Toby, are helping her sister Kat run the local animal shelter. Syd and Kat are all excited about the prospect of the shelter’s newest fundraiser: shopping channel queen Ulla Townsend. Shelter admin Maggie Shayne vehemently refuses to have anything to do with the woman, but the fundraiser ensues as planned. That is, until Ulla turns up dead in the middle of the event. The cause of death is determined to be an allergic reaction, but Syd and Toby are sniffing out something fishy. When Syd met Ulla, it was clear she was distasteful and rude. And right before the event, Syd spotted some behind-the-scenes drama between Ulla and her manager. As they begin to investigate, they realize there is no shortage of suspects, and Maggie is at the top of the list. Now Syd and Toby must claw their way to the truth before everything goes paws up at their animal shelter in Death by a Whisker by national bestselling author T. C. LoTempio.
Review: I give this book 4 out of 5 Cozy Kitty Stars! This was a highly enjoyable cozy mystery. I loved how this book was perfect if you are an animal/cat lover. Meow! I have 5 feline friends, 1 canine friend and 2 turtles. So you can definitely say I am an animal enthusiast/crazy cat lady! This book also had some bookish elements that made me oh so happy! The story was well written and was entertaining. The only issue issue I had was that this was second in the series and I have made the mistake of choosing a few books off NetGalley that were part of a series that I haven’t read so the characters were missing a little depth. This is my fault for not paying close enough attention but overall, I highly recommend this book!😄📚
Scones and Scoundrels by Molly MacRae
Inversgail, on the west coast of the Scottish Highlands, welcomes home native daughter and best-selling environmental writer Daphne Wood. Known as the icon of ecology, Daphne will spend three months as the author in residence for the Inversgail schools. Janet Marsh and her business partners at Yon Bonnie Books are looking forward to hosting a gala book signing for her. Daphne, who hasn’t set foot in Scotland in thirty years, is . . . eccentric. She lives in the Canadian wilderness, in a cabin she built herself, with only her dog for a companion, and her people skills have developed a few rough-hewn edges. She and the dog (which she insists on bringing with her) cause problems for the school, the library, and the bookshop even before they get to Inversgail. Then, on the misty night they arrive, a young man—an American who’d spent a night in the B above Yon Bonnie Books—is found dead outside a pub. Daphne did her Inversgail homework and knows that Janet and her partners solved a previous murder. She tries to persuade them to join her in uncovering the killer and the truth. To prove she’s capable, she starts poking and prying. But investigating crimes can be murder, and Daphne ends up dead, poisoned by scones from the tearoom at Yon Bonnie Books. Now, to save the reputation of their business—not to mention the reputation of their scones—Janet and her partners must solve both murders. And Daphne’s dog might be able to help them, if only they can get it to stop howling. . .
Review: I give this book 3 out of 5 Cozy Stars! I liked this book, overall. Just like the two previous cozies, this book had a lot to do with bookish things. I really enjoyed the setting and the mystery of the story but the main character just didn’t sit well with me. Rude people just make me a bit uncomfortable. Also it was a bit hard to catch up with all the characters. The book was well written so I look forward to checking out the author’s other books.

Awww! You always make me smile when I open up WordPress!😍 I’m really happy you like the layout. I feel like a loser though because I haven’t been writing my own synopsis recently. It’s just been easier to use the ones they provide but maybe when I feel better I will get back into it! I couldn’t sleep so I did random things with my blog and saw others have so many pretty things.😰

Hey you sweet and beautiful girl: don’t talk like that. You are not a loser at all. Your reviews are always so well written. So you don’t write your own synopsis at the moment? Big deal….so many other bloggers don’t either. It’s the review that matters in the end, and that’s what you always manage to write in a truly fun and great way. I just hope you feel better soon, that’s what really matters. But seriously you should proud of yourself. Not only do you manage to write every day, either posts or commenting, but also have an amazing blog, that looks even better now. You really are amazing😊😍😊

Dani, I use the synopsis provided by the publisher as well. In my humble opinion, I don’t see anything wrong with this. The reviews are the most important and yours are stellar as always.🤗
LikeLiked by 1 person
That’s what I thought was the most important but I have seen other pages where people bash reviewers who do this which I don’t understand. I just saw them saying well atleast our synopsis is original and I am thinking well…. it’s still based off the book and why does it matter? It’s so much easier to copy and paste especially with the pain I get in my hands.

I’ve never heard of a controversy regarding this. Huh. Honestly, people need to get a life!😡

I was a new blogger too so I thought that it was expected so felt pressured and I made a mistake once because all that was going on and messed up the premise so looked like a fool to the author.😭 I guess I let those people who think they are better than others get in my head it was supposed to be that way. I mean I never could tell the difference really in who did it themselves and who didnt!

Try not to pay attention to the trolls Dani. They’re miserable people who thrive on dragging others down with them.

You’re Right Kim! I was just new to book blogging so I thought that was how it should have been? I guess I didn’t know the ins and outs. But people putting others down because they do things differently is just ignorance!😒

I was sent a free ‘Cozy Mystery’ once, and it was indeed very ‘Cozy’. 🙂
These books set in bookshops and libraries have a ready following of course, but I like a book to challenge the reader a little more, and not make me feel quite so cozy. 🙂
Something like this.

Thanks for sharing that with me Pete! That book looks quite interesting! I read one last night that was a horror/psychological thriller and OMG! I was freaked out so couldn’t sleep but kept wanting to read more. I like cozies but I also like all other type of books so I am always down for a recommendation!😁🤓📚

By Reason of Insanity is an old book, but one that has stayed with me ever since. I really recommend it, if you ever get the time! 🙂 x

Now this is a serious question; do you think it will mess with me if I have mostly grown up in a mental institution? Lol. I know it sounds funny saying it but its true.

It is a book about a serial killer and the detective hunting him. One chapter about the killer, the other about the detective. It does contain some descriptions of stalking, and murder, but overall it is just a very well written dark thriller. If you think it might worry you though, best avoid it. I wasn’t thinking about your past when I recommended it, sorry. 🙂 🙂 x

Oh and I guess I like cozy at times because my reading depends on my mood. I have PTSD really bad and some bad mental health issues and just have to be mindful of what to read and when but that’s just me. I guess I am a mood reader, it all depends on my mood. I love all genres of fiction and even some non fiction so my spectrum is really broad.😉🤗😄
