Book Review: Cleaving Souls by Chauncey Rogers

I want to thank Chauncey Rogers for providing me with an eARC in exchange for an honest review. I appreciate this opportunity. All views and opinions expressed are my own.

Some dangers you cannot outrun. Some nightmares do not end when you wake.

Something is watching Katherine Harris. She can feel it when she goes out. She can feel it inside her home. She feels it in her bed. Her husband, Alex, wants to blame her anxiety on her pregnancy, but he’s often away for work. He doesn’t know what it’s like to be stuck in a small town, to be trapped in a tiny house on a run-down street, to be alone. Kat does, and the feeling only grows worse.

Whatever is going on, Kat’s certain that it’s far more serious than pregnancy jitters. When Alex takes Kat on a second honeymoon to get her mind off things, it becomes far more dangerous as well.

Review: I give this book 5 out of 5 Horror Stars! I just want to say Wow, this book is nothing that I would expect it to be. This book surprised me from beginning to finish. Once I got down and settled last night I was able to read this book in one sitting and lost a night’s sleep!

I couldn’t sleep because I kept wanting to turn pages but I also couldn’t sleep because this book had me paranoid as heck. Everytime one of my animals moved I was startled and thinking there was something strange in my house.

This book had a Stephen King and Dean Koontz kind of feel to it. The book was well written and kept your attention through the whole story. The characterisation was great. I really for the life of me could not figure out what was going on with Kat, was she losing her mind or was there really something bizarre going on! Then there came the twist and I was left like this…

I am glad I decided to read Chauncey’s horror masterpiece and I thank you Chauncey for the nightmares! If you are a fan of horror and suspense I would definitely recommend checking out Chauncey Roger’s Cleaving Souls!

  1. This made me think of the film ‘It Follows’. Have you seen that? It’s very good.
(At least I thought it was)
    Best wishes, Pete. x

    1. I’ve never seen that film, Pete! I can tell you that this book went way in a direction I didn’t expect with some crazy paranormal elements as well but can’t say much on it besides I definitely wasn’t expecting that. I will definitely have to check out the film though.

        1. Loved the review Pete! I will definitely have to check out the movie! I can see how it reminded you of this movie but the way this book plays out is pretty unique in its own way and no teenagers. Lol. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and your article with me!😊

            3. I know, I shouldn’t but I was feeling so down about myself and that was just so mean. Thanks for defending me. I just replied back and I flagged him as well. I just don’t see the point of saying something like that. I want to change the picture so bad now but then I will look weak…😭

            5. I was mortified! Why would someone just go on someone’s review to say that and how does he know it’s new we are not friends on Goodreads! I know he has no picture but insults the way others look!😒😒😒 And I hate clowns!

    2. Hey Dani, thanks so much for the review! I’m so glad that you enjoyed my little story. 🙂
On a side note, I’m really sorry about that idiot on Goodreads. I like to imagine that bad guys only exist in the stories we read, but unfortunately that isn’t the case. You’re a perfectly lovely person, inside and out. Don’t let some loser’s asinine opinions and comments let you feel down about yourself.

I’m sorry that there was that drama on the review I posted for your review.😢 I flagged his comment. I know I shouldn’t let it get to me but I battle low self-esteem. Thanks so much for your kind words and they mean the world to me. Cleaving Souls was fantastic!!!!😍

            1. I have watched so much of it and I’m still scared. lol. So this might beba good suspense in your book then! lol but it for sure had me guessing the whole time and trying to figure out what the hell. lol. I’m reading me a nice Christmas Historic Romance Novella to try to even out that I saw on NetGalley. I think it’s called “Lady, it’s Cold outside”. So hopefully it will be good!😊 Hope your next read is great and your weekend Carrie!😊
