Three Books That I Didn’t Realize Were Part of a Series but Still Great

Hello there lovelies! Today I am going to review 3 page turning mysteries that I’ve read over the last week or so that were part of a series and I didn’t realize it when I requested them via NetGalley. A lot of us have been guilty of it. We start clicking on NetGalley and then we realize that “damn, it’s the 5th in the series, am I going to enjoy it still?” Luckily with these three mysteries I was able to enjoy all of the books even though I read them later on in the game! Score!

Crossing the Line (A Detective Jessica Daniel Series #8) by Kerry Wilkinson

I give this book 5 out of 5 Thrilling Stars! I just #lovelovelove this book! Even though it was the 8th book in the series, this book can be easily read as a standalone. This was an engrossing page turner with a sturdy plot. I also enjoyed the side plot of the story as well. Jessica and her team were absolutely hilarious. I thought it was great that this book was humorous on top of being a great psychological thriller at the same time. I feel that most authors would not be able to pull this off. I can’t wait until I get the chance to read the previous books in this series! This book is Dani-approved!

Naked We Came (A Jake Travis Novel #5) by Robert Lane

Jake Travis searches for the man who abducted and killed his sister and only sibling over 30 years ago, while on a family vacation in Florida. She went to their motel room to get the book “Matilda.” She was never seen again.

Now, the man suspected of killing her has washed up on a beach near Jake’s house. He penned a confession just days before his mysterious death. Jake believes that the confession was forced and that DNA was tainted.

His vengeful quest tangles him in a web of murky and powerful figures. As Jake forges ahead, seeking both justice for his sister and personal closure, he questions if he will ever spring free of his past, or whether the past will forever shackle him in its chains.

I give this book 4 out of 5 Thrilling Stars! I really enjoyed this murder mystery and there were a lot of twists and turns that we all know we love so much. This was an edge of your seat thriller that was filled with cover ups and mystery. This can easily be read as a standalone and has a great plot. I really enjoyed the characters especially the supporting ones. I felt that this book dragged out a little longer than it had to and was just a tad slow at times. Overall, I highly recommend this book and think this would make a great film.

Many of Twist (County Cork Mystery #6) by Shelia Connolly

I give this book 4 out of 5 Stars! I really enjoyed this book and its charming setting. I love how they portrayed Ireland in this story with the nice Irish Countryside setting. I thought the plot was well structured and the characters were charming like the setting. I loved the writing style of this story and the mystery. I wish I would have read this series in order because I felt I missed out just a tad but it still makes a good standalone. I will definitely be checking out the previous books in this series.

  2. Three books in one post: seriously I thought I was alright here by having to add only one😂 But of course I know you want me to get to adding 20 books to my list a day as well lol 😂😂 Just kidding of course!
    I really like it when books stand on their own as well. Although longer series can of course be fun if the plot carries over, for newer readers it can be quite overwhelming. All these books really sound amazing and I could not help myself by adding them all now 😊
    I also loved that top one is Dani-approved (that line is such a great find). Another great post! Keep them coming 😀😀

Waaahhh three books you didn’t know were part of a series? 😛 Gosh, I swear, I’d beat myself up if I ever found out I picked up a book that wasn’t the first book hahah I really hate the idea of starting something in the middle, unless I find out that they are meant to be stand-alones! 😛 Glad to see you enjoyed all three of them though!!
