Not everything is as it seems in what appears to be an average family. When danger lurks close to home, skeletons emerge, and the darkest of secrets surface, causing twisted desires to become reality. It’s been a year since Markie’s best friend was brutally murdered in her own home. The killer was never found, and has decided to return for more. The people in Markie’s life are being picked off one at a time, as the killer watches her dismay, relishing every moment. Will Markie and her sister Kam break free from the clutches of death, or will the twisted family secrets cause a roadblock in their escape?

Aggravated Momentum offers the perspective of some very diverse and unique characters, including fun, witty personalities to fall in love with, along with an intellectual killer to die for. You may be surprised as to whom exactly you can relate. Is it the cold, calculated murderer? Or is it Markie or Kam, the independent sisters, guilty of nothing more than getting tangled with the wrong people at the most inopportune times? The deeper you dig into the psyche of another, the more breath taking are the secrets you will find.

I would like to thank Shannanigans @ Reads & Reels and the author for giving me this opportunity. I’m sorry for my posts being late and that I haven’t been my usual blogging self but family tragedies and hurricane florence has taken its toll to my mobile home. But enough about me, I want you to check out this trailer reveal!❤💛❤

Reader beware: to open this tome is to invite dread into your heart. Every page you turn will bring you closer to something wicked. And when the dead begin to rise from the steaming pits of hell, only then will you discover that it is already too late. Your life is forfeit.
Featuring an introduction by Leanna Renee Hieber, author of the Eterna Files and Strangely Beautiful saga, DeadSteam plays host to the scintillating writing of David Lee Summers (Owl Dance, The Brazen Shark), Jen Ponce (The Bazaar, Demon’s Cradle), Wendy Nikel (The Continuum), Karen J Carlisle (The Adventures of Viola Stewart), Jonah Buck (Carrion Safari), and more…

And that sinking feeling in the pit of your chest? That fear that something is following you, watching you, hunting you? It is not for nothing. Look over your shoulder, dear reader. Watch behind you. Listen to the whispers in the darkness.
But know this…it is all inevitable.

Excerpt

Burke Street Station
The city was frost and fog. Icy crystals formed on the windows of the train station. Breath drifted up in a hazy clouds like puffs of

smoke as Theodore tried to warm his hands, blowing hot breath onto his stiff, cold fingers and rubbing his hands together vigorously. When that failed, he thrust them back into his coat pockets, cursing under his breath. His threadbare coat offered little warmth. Drafts of wind found their way through the broken stitching and the tears in his sleeves like rats scrambling through the cracks in the station walls. A discarded page of newsprint, caught in the rushing wind, tumbled and turned in the air and landed, crumpled and torn, at Theodore’s feet.
He stooped over, picked it up, and glanced at the engraving of a wanted man. Even without a skill for reading, he knew what name was printed beneath the picture of masked man on the page. Anthony Tidkins.
Wanted, he read. That was one word Theodore recognized. Crimes was another, and then, finally…murder.
Rubbish. The newspapers always tried to make villains out of the radical thinkers of the world. The Resurrectionists, who named their organization after the sack-em-up men who provided the anatomists with subjects for their scientific endeavors, were scientists. They had provided the world with aether, revolutionizing air travel. They had brought Prince Charles back from the brink of death. They had devised the engines for the London Underground. Anthony Tidkins himself promised to cure death. Yet the newspaper men still called for his blood. Theodore balled up the page and shoved it in his pocket.
He pulled out his trick coin as he approached the gate. The station master was asleep at his booth, a little dribble of spit running down his chin. Typical. Thoedore stuck his coin in the machine, waited for the gate to open, and then, with a light tug on the fishing line threaded through a little hole in the tip of the coin, it popped back out. Easy. He was in before anybody noticed what he had done. He pocketed the coin and started down the hallway.
Tap-tap, clack, tap-tap, clack, his shoes beat a rhythm on the stone steps. The sole of his left shoe was beginning to wear, and the heel of his shoe tapped against the heel of his foot as he walked. He puffed on his hands again, and peeked over his shoulder. No one was after him. He had done this trick a thousand times before. So why did he feel like there was someone watching him?
Clack, tap-tap, clack. Again, he glanced over his shoulder. The odd double-rhythm of his broken shoe was suddenly unnerving in the deserted station. Where were all the other passengers? Nice folks avoided this place like the plague, especially after midnight. The oil lamps that lit Burke Street Station were so routinely out of oil that he could hardly find his own feet in front of him, but still, Theodore expected to see other passengers. But where were the other vagrants? They should be sleeping in the dark corners of the hallway under blankets made of rags. And the boys from the blacking factory should be heading home from their long shifts, fingers stained black with powders and oil. But there was no one. Only the rats skittering through rat tunnels to keep him company.
Tap-tap, clack, tap-tap, clack.
Another set of footsteps began to follow his own, beating out a different rhythm. A steady tap, tap, tap, tap. He paused to listen, and nothing but silence greeted him. He glanced over his shoulder. Nobody there.
He continued onward, and again, a second set of footsteps started up behind him. He paused to listen. This time, they didn’t stop.
Tap, tap, tap, tap.
Whoever it was, they were getting closer. Closer and closer, louder and louder, tapping out a steady rhythm as they approached down the long, dark hallway. He could almost make out the solitary figure in the gloomy, hazy light, but then the fog grew thicker, and whatever he thought he’d seen was gone. The footsteps kept on getting louder, though, and closer. He turned and ran down the hallway.
A long flight of steps delved deeper into the darkness of Burke Street Station, down, down toward the platform. The train was already rumbling, announcing its approach. It vibrated through Theodore’s toes to the tip of his spine, rattling his bones.
He grabbed the railing all but flew down the staircase. The rumble of the train grew louder and clearer.
“Shit,” Theodore cursed. Taking the steps two at a time, he hurtled down the steps and didn’t stop when he reached the bottom.

Nails on a blackboard. The tines of silverware scraping against a ceramic plate. The screaming madmen at Newgate Asylum. The anguished cry of a mother weeping over her stillborn babe. Theodore had heard these sounds all, but not one compared to the shrill screech of an automatic train rolling into Burke Street. Iron wheels grinding against iron tracks. Hot metal sending up sparks, belching out steam as black as sin. The carriages rattling and clanging against one another. The hiss of hot coal burning in the engines. The shriek of brakes as the train ground to a halt. If it went on long enough, it would surely drive a man mad. Theodore covered his ears with his hands, pressing them against his head to muffle out the deafening noise, and waited for the thundering train to come to a halt.

When it did, he realized it must have drowned out the sound of the steadily approaching footsteps he’d heard in the hallway, because he could hear them again, and they were closer. So close he half expected to feel someone’s hot breath on his neck. He whirled around, but there was no one there. Silence greeted him like an old friend. His heart hammered against his chest.

“There’s no one there,” he muttered to himself. But he didn’t sound convinced.

A smell lingered in the air, as if something foul had passed through. The smell was familiar enough, the breath of a man with rotting teeth. It was a foul, cloying stench. He spun around again, and this time found himself face to face with the man to whom those dreaded footsteps belonged.

Only he wasn’t a man. Not really.

Book Review: The Kithseeker~Rachel’s Random Resources

I would like to thank Rachel @ Rachel’s Random Resources and the author for providing me an opportunity to be part of this tour. Sorry this post is a little late due to hurricane preparation for my family.

The Kithseeker

France, 1680

Liara’s defense of the Wizard Nagarath has rendered Anisthe incantate–bereft of magick–but even this cannot guarantee her safety. Because the death of her father-in-magick would seal the girl’s fate, necessity demands she and her wizard maintain a watchful eye on the war mage, while protecting her from his dark designs.
Anisthe has embarked on a journey across Europe, aided by his half-fey manservant with an agenda all his own. They search for a legendary mirror that contains the world’s most powerful magick. Although the stuff of fairytales, the possibility of its existence compels Nagarath and Liara to seek the artifact themselves. Both know that should Anisthe lay claim to that power, Liara would be at his mercy and not even Nagarath could save her.
Thus, the pair find themselves at Versailles, surrounded by agents who ferret out magick users and destroy them. Uncertain who is friend and who is foe, with their rival on their heels, they must discover the mirror before Anisthe releases its evil, or worse, it lays claim to Liara’s magick and brings doom upon them all.

This was such an unique and fantastic read! It has amazing characters and a plot that will keep you turning pages or scrolling through the night!😍 The only issue is that I wanted more and wished I read the backstory! The storyline was quite compelling and many fantasy lovers alike would fall in love with the world building! A wonderful read, that I highly recommend!

Blitz: Odyssey in a Teacup by Paula Houseman~Rachel’s Random Resources

I would like to thank Rachel @ Rachel’s Random Resources and the author for allowing me to be a part of this Blog Blitz! If you are an author or a book enthusiast, I recommend checking out her site in the link above for great opportunities! This was an awesome opportunity and as always all views provided are my own.😊

Odyssey in a Teacup

Encounters with a pair of supersized Y-fronts; a humourless schoolmarm with an unfortunate name and monstrous yellow incisors; and a tut-tutting, big-breasted, modern-day gorgon are the norm for Ruth Roth. She’s used to crazy.
Her mum squawks like a harpy and her dad has a dodgy moral compass. Add in daily face-offs with a relentlessly bitchy mirror, and Ruth’s home life feels like a Greek tragicomedy.

She hankers for the ordinary. But blah is not a good fit for someone who doesn’t fit in. And isn’t meant to.
Ruth’s vanilla existence is an issue for her besties—her hot-looking, obsessive-compulsive cousin and soul mate (who needs to do everything twice-twice), and her two closest girlfriends.

With their encouragement and a good homoeopathic dose of ancient mythology, Ruth embarks on an odyssey to retrieve her spirit. She’s confronted with her biggest challenge ever, though, when one of these friends sends her spiralling back into a dark place.
The decision she must make can either bring her out or launch the mother of all wars in her world.

This book was utterly magical! It was just what the doctor ordered and I’m so glad I obliged.😊 I believe books have power and this novel was so powerful because the amount of smiles and the amount of laughter it produced! I have been so stressed with my upcoming eviction and to be honest this story was the perfect escape.

It transported me to a magical place that made me feel free and actually happy! I wasn’t having constant panic and going cuckoo figuring out what to do with life because this book to me a place of laughter that made my heart full. If this book isn’t magic than I don’t know what is then.😉

I loved the characters and I thought the world building and plot was phenomal. I really have no complaints with this story besides the fact that I’ve already finished it.😕 You know you love a book when you intentionally slow down your reading pace just so you can enjoy it longer! I am looking forward to rereading it in the future and I can’t wait to see what the author comes out with next! If you are looking for a good read, I highly recommend Odyssey in a Teacup by Paula Houseman. Hands down, a must read 5 star book!

Author Bio – Paula Houseman was once a graphic designer. But when the temptation to include ‘the finger’ as part of a logo for a forward-moving women’s company proved too much, she knew it was time to give away design. Instead, she took up writing.
She found she was a natural with the double entendres (God knows she’d been in enough trouble as a child for dirty wordplay).
As a published writer of earthy chick lit and romantic comedy, Paula gets to bend, twist, stretch and juice up universal experiences to shape reality the way she wants it, even if it is only in books. But at the same time, she can make it more real, so that her readers feel part of the sisterhood. Or brotherhood (realness has nothing to do with gender).
Through her books, Paula also wants to help the reader escape into life and love’s comic relief. And who doesn’t need to sometimes?
Her style is a tad Monty Pythonesque because she adores satire. It helps defuse all those gaffes and thoughts that no one is too proud of.
Paula lives in Sydney, Australia with her husband. No other creatures. The kids have flown the nest and the dogs are long gone.

Publication Day Push: The Mysterious Lord Millcroft by Virginia Heath

Making Lord Millcroft by Virginia Heath

The Mysterious Lord Millcroft, in fact the entire King’s Elite series, came about by accident as I was writing the final book in my Wild Warriners quartet. I knew from the outset that the charming lady’s man Jake Warriner was a spy, so in his book, A Warriner to Seduce Her, I had to create a whole new world of espionage. He was a member of the King’s Elite, a crack force of covert operatives who were tasked with catching smugglers. I never intended to pursue the King’s Elite beyond that one book.
In the first chapter of Jake’s book, when he had his long-awaited leave cancelled by his superior Lord Fennimore to schmooze vital information from a lady for the government, he tries to palm the task off on one of his colleagues. “Why can’t Flint seduce her?”
“I need Flint to keep chipping away on the other side… Besides, I can hardly send Leatham.” All eyes instinctively travelled to the jagged and impressive scar down Seb Leatham’s right cheek. Even without the scar, his friend resembled a bare-knuckle fighter and tended to be monosyllabic around the opposite sex.
And right then, Seb intrigued me. How did he get that scar? Why was he so painfully shy?
From then on, I knew that my side character had to have his own book so that I could delve into his psyche and background fully. From that first chapter in A Warriner to Seduce Her, I beefed up Seb’s role in that book. I made him commander of the Invisibles- the branch of the King’s Elite that specialised in blending into the shadows because that is what Seb did best. As the story unfolded, I realised he was brave and selfless. Quick witted and loyal.
While I was about it, I expanded Flint and Lord Fennimore too and by the time I actually wrote The Mysterious Lord Millcroft, I had two more agents to fall in love with. Seb’s second in command Gray and the government lawyer Hadleigh. In the end, that one little sentence turned into four books- The King’s Elite- and all five of those side characters get their own Happily Ever After, alongside some other side characters I created along the way. Or in past books. Even the heroine in The Mysterious Lord Millcroft is recycled. There’s a whole interwoven, constantly expanding Regency world now living inside my odd head…

30th Birthday Dani Time!😍

Hello my loves!!!😍 Today, I just wanted to write a post because I wanted to thank so many for the birthday wishes when I told only a select few!😁 It really made my day and this community never seizes to amaze me!💖

I am going to be honest and say that this is one of the worst and one of the best birthdays that I ever had in my life.

It’s the best because I now have you. Of course my kids always make things better but it’s better because of you.💖

Celebrating my birthday is not the event or day that most people have mine has always been a curse to me. To be real and honest, my 6th birthday was the first day of of my torturous abuse so every year was a “special” occasion and my birthday was always the day I got it the worst of worst because “I was getting too old” for my abuser. Everytime I had a birthday it made me less valuable to him financially and to him for his personal reasons. I am not going to go into details because that may trigger some but it was a day I dreaded my whole life.

Not only did I try to escape this day altogether and would freak out any time someone would buy me a gift or try to do something for me, when I escaped it there was always something bad that happened that day that just justified that birthdays for me were the worse. Everyone I love I tried to go all out but for me, we avoided it like the plague.

After reading Michel’s sweet post last night and seeing how many people cared about me, it just overwhelmed me with love. Today even as I dreaded this day all year and looked at all the gray in my hair and knew my 20s were behind me, I felt loved. I really do. I feel loved even though I have no idea how I am going to pay my electric bill and my trusty water cut off but it doesn’t matter as much because for the first time in my life, I know that there is people in my life that haven’t seen me in person and hear my flaws but all they give is love in return so for my 30th birthday with your help I am saying fuck my tradition, I am going to celebrate making it another year and coming this far and I owe it to each and every one of you. I can’t thank you enough, lovelies! You ROCK!🤩💖👑💎

Book Excerpt

Prologue

The prologue to, ‘Arcacia,’ outlines the events leading up to the Great thirteen year war in Arcacia, a magical realm of the Old World. To avert the threat of invasion from the northern territories, Selina’s father, a King of the Argenon family clan had promised his beautiful daughter, Selina’s hand in marriage to Setanor, a powerful warlock from the north. The aggressive sorcerer ruling family houses of the North had always openly threatened to invade rich, flourishing lands of western Arcacia. So far the Argenons and their people had managed to keep them at bay but this was getting harder.

Selina, a strong, beautiful well-educated Arcacian lady is adamant she’d rather stand up to Setanor than subject the people she loves to a life-time of tyranny. After her father suddenly passes away Selina breaks his oath; gives up her magic powers, and chooses to marry an Arcacian commander. Harris originated from a strange world called England in the New World, he is unlike other Arcacians; Harris is human. Selina forfeits her magical powers by marrying an outsider, as is dictated by law. They have three beautiful babies, triplets a boy and two girls. But Setanor who wanted to inherit Western Arcacia and who genuinely fell in love with Selina from afar, is furious, perceiving her derisory actions to be an act of scorn and disrespect.

He declares war on Arcacia, and one fateful night he appears with his guards to Selina’s home, captures Selina, and banishes Harris to the underworld. Before being imprisoned and spellbound in a tower, ‘Until she comes to her senses and agrees to accept Setanor,’ Selina pleads with Set’s commander, Garwain, also her paternal uncle to spare her babies. He complies, placing them in an enclosed basket which he casts down a magical river that forks to the New world to,’ London, England,’ the land of their father, not knowing if they will live or die.

The children survive but are separated. A mysterious woman who finds the babies floating along the river, takes one of them, a girl, to raise herself. A wolf suckles the boy who is discovered in the forest then raised by an elf-Queen and her people. Meanwhile the third child a girl, Sophie drifts on to England.

I really liked this story! The premise and storyline was great but felt the execution needed a little work. I also felt the characters were lacking a bit but I did enjoy the read overall and read it within a day. I feel with a little tweaking this story could definitely turn into a great 5 star read that many young people and adults will be drawn to for sure. I am definitely interested in seeing how the author’s previous works will turn out, the author had great ideas! I also had my 10 year old daughter read this along with me and she really enjoyed it and thought it had an unique storyline. We had fun reading together and this story was likable and I think it has great potential.😁 I give this novel 3.5 out 5 magical stars! I’m glad to receive this opportunity. Thanks Digital Reads Blog Tours!😀❤
