Expected Publication Date: September 28, 2018

Synopsis (1)

Synopsis:

Angel Svabodina is a rookie forensic anthropologist, enjoying the beginning of her new career. That joy comes crashing down when she figures out the skeleton she’s working on is not human and then it vanishes.

She throws herself fully into the case without thinking about the parties involved, a psychopomp associate, and paranormal mafia families made up of vampires and werewolves—or the consequences.

When she sees there’s no avoiding the inevitable, Angel has to suck it up and work with the werewolves to solve the case but can she trust them?

Werewolves and witches are in a centuries-old feud, but that doesn’t stop the shivers running down her spine from one wolf in particular. What’s more, nothing comes for free, including information. To get what she needs from the werewolf don, Angel has to meet with the fae queen. Can she meet her without repercussions and solve the case?

A parking attendant asked for my car keys and let me know that he’d bring it back when I was ready to leave.

As Laura and I got out of the car, I noticed a couple talking under a tree to the right, by a fountain. They looked to be enjoying themselves, which made me smile and hope for a good time. The Scented Bones Front Cover 3D

I looked at Laura to see her also sizing up the house. Our attention returned to the young man by the massive front door.

He was wearing a suit and a Christmas tree tie.

Laura smiled and yelled, “Lorenzo!” Then she ran up the steps, and into his arms.

Lorenzo was taller than her, and she was wearing heels. He looked fit, healthy, and confident. His blue eyes were striking, and his hair was slicked back. If it weren’t for the tie, I’d have thought he was an international businessman, not a chef; though, I guessed one could be both.

“Hi, you must be Angel, Laura’s roommate,” Lorenzo said.

“And, you must be Lorenzo, her friend,” I said slowly.

He laughed, a nice lilting sound. “A little more than that. Welcome to Paulo Abelli’s house. He’s my boss, but really cool, so just relax and enjoy the party.”

“Thanks,” I replied.luca kamorra

Lorenzo grabbed hold of the crescent-shaped handle, pulled the imposing front door open, and ushered Laura inside the house. “Come on, babe, let me introduce you to some people.”

Laura threw me an excited look, and I followed the happy couple.

Interesting, I thought to myself.

The travertine foyer opened up into an expansive living room with floor to ceiling windows, capturing the magnificent view of the pool, lined with tall cypress trees next to a perfectly manicured lawn. The focal point of the room was the marble fireplace situated in direct view of the front door. It was the two-story Christmas tree next to it that took center stage, with gold and bronze glass balls in assorted sizes, twinkling white lights, and porcelain angels adorning each limb.Leo Mezzanotte

Two leather couches with an enormous, square, stone table in the middle were sat in front of the fireplace, facing each other. Another smaller, stone table covered with a cheese and nut tray and bowls of fruit and sweets was at the end of one of the couches. There were matching side tables with vases of red roses and pine branches, giving off the scent of Christmas. As I walked further into the room, it opened up to reflect a larger area off to the left that could be used for dancing and mingling.

I glanced through the windows to get a better look at the pool and back deck and saw marble pillars wrapped with white Christmas lights.Luigi Ambrosia

It all looked so. . . Normal— to an outsider or a mundane. However, there was that special scent hanging in the air that let me know the house belonged to a paranormal family.

Hopefully, they were friendly.

At times like these, I felt stupid for locking up my magick. I weaved my senses throughout the house and realized it was full of them–paranormals. I just couldn’t tell what kind they were.

My forensic case involved a paranormal girl, and now I was in a paranormal household. I didn’t believe in coincidences.

Book ReviewWow, what a phenomenal paranormal must read! I loved everything about this gem of a novel! Even though this book was short & sweet and could be gobbled up in less than a day, it was packed with fantastic characters, great world building and a fast yet detailed plot! When I first was introduced to Angelina Kerner’s writings, I read a sweet novella that was Hallmark movie perfect so when I saw that she was coming out with a crime fighting kick-a** paranormal novel, I had to sign up immediately! The characters were great in all the necessary ways and they worked well with their action roles, keeping you on the edge of your seat. When you usually read a short novel, you are in despair because of the one dimensional characters and an ending that is too quick for anyone’s tastes but Ms. Kerner pulls it off magnificently and always manages to leave me craving for more! I highly recommend this read to those who love the paranormal and are looking for a quick fix treat. I don’t believe you will be disappointed, not one bit! I can’t wait to see what she has in store for us next.

Life just got a little sweeter in the island fishing village of Eastport, Maine. Jacobia “Jake” Tiptree and her best friend Ellie are opening a waterfront bake shop, The Chocolate Moose, where their tasty treats pair perfectly with the salty ocean breeze. But while Jake has moved on from fixing up houses, she still can’t resist the urge to snoop into the occasional murder.

Jake and Ellie have been through a lot together, from home repair to homicide investigation. So when they decide to open a chocolate-themed bakery, they figure it’ll be a piece of cake. With Ellie’s old family recipes luring in customers, they expect to make plenty of dough this Fourth of July weekend. Having family home for the holiday only sweetens the deal for Jake—until the ill wind of an early-season hurricane blows up her plans. When the storm hits, Jake’s grown son Sam is stranded in a Boston bus station, and her husband Wade is stuck on a cargo ship. But as bitter as the storm is, something even more sinister is brewing in the kitchen of The Chocolate Moose—where retired health inspector Alan Blake is found murdered.

Ellie never made a secret of her distaste for Alan, who had been raining on their parade with bogus talk of health code violations. Now, with no alibi for the night of the murder, she’s in a sticky situation with the police—and it’s up to Jake to catch the real killer and keep Ellie living in the land of the free.

I give this book 4.5 out of 5 Delicious Stars!! The reason I picked up this book is because I love a good cozy and the author sounded rather familiar! I must also admit to myself, that I chose this title due to that yummy looking cover! I mean doesn’t this book scream YUUMmmm! After re-reading the premise and starting the story I realized that I have read a few of Sarah Graves’ previous titles in her Home Repair is Homicide series which I loved! I will jump in here and say the main reason I gave it 4.5 stars instead of 5 was because I feel this book should be marketed more as a spin-off because it was very helpful knowing some of the character’s stories before reading this novel. I do think this book could be read on a standalone basis but probably best if you have a feel for things first.

I highly enjoyed this fun murder mystery that was filled with so much adventure! This was exciting and I enjoyed the pace while catching up with some of the characters! I actually loved the characters and the baking gave me the super munchies!

I think this is a great edition to Sarah Graves’s collection of stories! I am sure I will enjoy the following book in this series as well and I am definitely ready for a new adventure!

Thanks for reading my review and this one is Dani-approved!😍

Sarah Graves is the pen name of American mystery and crime novelist Mary Squibb.[1]Based in New York, her Home Repair is Homicide series follows transplanted New Yorker Jacobia “Jake” Tiptree and her friend Ellie White as they solve murders in Eastport, Maine, all while she repairs her centuries-old house. She is currently working on her Chocolate Murder Mystery series. You can find more info about Sarah on her website at sarahgraves.net

Quotes from “The Shadow Girl”

bara0225

“I have always known that I am invisible—I had no idea that eventually I would fade away completely.”

“Blackness. Nothingness. It was in the shape of a giant, hazy shadow, enveloping me, swallowing me, and digesting me into the unknown. It was my biggest fear and my ultimate fate.”

“As the freezing rain hit me, I could feel the stares…smoldering on my skin. I longed for invisibility. At times like this, the very curse that plagued me was also my protection.”

“…in school I felt more undetectable than ever. I walked through the crowded hallways like a human pinball, careening off one person and bouncing into another.”

The Hunger Games meets Romeo and Juliet in a stunning debut about a forbidden romance between a young activist and a government employee working for a corrupt bureau that controls the population by deciding who lives and who dies.

Roman Irvine is a disgruntled IT Technician for the Divinity Bureau, a government agency that uses random selection to decide who lives and who dies. In a world where overpopulation has led to pollution, a crippled economy, and a world in crisis, he has accepted the bureau’s activities as a necessity. That is until he meets April McIntyre.

April has every reason to be suspicious of Roman. He works for the Divinity Bureau, which sent her father to an early grave. However, he is also sweet and loyal, and unbeknownst to her, he saved her life. As Roman and April fall deeper in love, the deeper they are thrust into the politics of deciding who lives and who dies. Someone wants April dead. And the bureau’s process of random selection may not be so random after all.

I give The Divinity Bureau by Tessa Clare 5 out 5 of Romantic Dystopian Stars! Wow, what a book! I haven’t read a dystopian novel in a while and after reading this story I will be sure to pick up more for sure. Even though this was a bit of a slow read in the beginning, I was captivated from Chapter One!😄 I fell in love with the characters and loved seeing April and Roman’s romance unfold.

I highly enjoyed how this story was told from a dual perspective and how the plot was nice and solid. The intensity, danger, betrayal and romance made this a YA masterpiece that I won’t soon forget!

This story was action packed and think it would make an excellent film!

I was up late turning pages and was just stunned at how quickly I devoured this novel. My only problem Ms. Clare is that I have to wait for more!

Tessa Clare is the author of The Divinity Bureau. When she’s not writing, she’s an entrepreneur, an activist, a speaker, and the Managing Director of Asset Creative House.

Born in 1992, she began her early career as a concession stand attendant, a busgirl, a barista, a player’s club representative for a casino, and an administrative assistant. She also spent years working as a manager for Vacasa, whose business model and revolutionary marketing strategies would later inspire the groundwork for Asset Creative House.

The Divinity Bureau is Tessa’s debut novel about a forbidden love between a young activist and a government employee working for a corrupt bureau, set in a dystopian world. It was released in 2017.

Port Lewis, a coastal town perched on the Washington cliffs, is surrounded by dense woods, and is home to quaint coffee shops, a movie theater, a few bars, two churches, the local college, and witches, of course.

Ryder is a witch with two secrets—one about his blood and the other about his heart. Keeping the secrets hasn’t been a problem, until a tarot reading with his best friend, Liam Montgomery, who happens to be one of his secrets, starts a chain of events that can’t be undone.

Dark magic runs through Ryder’s veins. The cards have prophesized a magical catastrophe that could shake the foundation of Ryder’s life, and a vicious partnership with the one person he doesn’t want to risk.

Magic and secrets both come at a cost, and Ryder must figure out what he’s willing to pay to become who he truly is.

I give this book 4 out of 5 Prideful and Paranormal Stars! I really enjoy this LGBTQ+ romance novel. The main character, Ryder, is trans and his relationships and his emotions bleed through this paranormal romance with an intensity that I won’t soon forget. I just was so intrigued and adored Ryder!💖😄💙

This was a great novella and I read it in one sitting. It was the perfect bite sized version of Paranormal Romance’hit it and quit it’ novel. Liam and Ryder have a very intense relationship that really had me on the edge of my seat! The reason I didn’t give this 5 stars was because there is a Trigger Warning in here that is one that can get to me a bit more than others. There is a brief death of an animal but the animal comes back. YAY for that! It was probably just me because of previous experiences but thought I should mention it just incase. This book was fantastically written and new author Brooklyn Ray is sure to become very sucessful.

Overall, I recommend this book to any readers who love a good LGBT+ novel or a good paranormal romance! I have to add that I love the LGBTQ genre because I am a proud polyamorous pansexual lady!😄😉🌈

Hope everyone has a great day!💖💙💚💜💛

Hello my lovely Book Dragons!🐉📚 I wanted to share with you today a book that was released today, Fill Me by Michelle Hazen. I am excited about this book because it’s the prequel to A Cruel Kind of Beautiful which I read as an ARC and LOVED it. You can find my review HERE!😊 I really enjoy Michelle’s work and she is such awesome chick! I enjoy reading her updates via her newsletter about her new adventures and latest books. You can find all that fantabulous info @ http://michellehazenbooks.com She is unique, kind and has her own custom style. Like Michelle, I use to call the roads my home and was a nomad. You guys know I like to share how I can relate in some way. I can totally relate to being a nomad and even though I am now bed ridden, I travel through my books and everyone’s writings.💖📚

I didn’t have a certain state or a permanent address. I celebrated being a free spirit and the open roads were my home. I lived for meeting new people and experiencing life to the fullest! Since I was institutionalized most of my childhood and I was stuck in a white hospital setting, when I escaped “the system”, I spread my wings and I lived life to the fullest. Some looked down on me and said I was just another “homeless hippie” but for me I was finally just free. You guys know I like to share how I have a connection to the author or the story but back to the book! This is the blurb of her brand spankin’ new release Fill Me!😊 I LOVE this series it’s perfect for the ROCK chick girl, like me!😍🎸🎶✌

Award-winning author Michelle Hazen is a nomad with a writing problem. Years ago, she and her husband ducked out of the 9 to 5 world and moved into their truck. She found her voice with the support of the online fanfiction community, and once she started typing, she never looked back. She has written most of her books in odd places, including a bus in Thailand, an off-the-grid cabin in the Sawtooth Mountains, a golf cart in a sandstorm, a rental car during a heat wave in the Mohave Desert and a beach in Honduras. Even when she’s climbing rocks, riding horses, or getting lost someplace wild and beautiful, there are stories spooling out inside her head, until she finally heeds their call and returns to her laptop and solar panels.
