The Hunger Games meets Romeo and Juliet in a stunning debut about a forbidden romance between a young activist and a government employee working for a corrupt bureau that controls the population by deciding who lives and who dies.

Roman Irvine is a disgruntled IT Technician for the Divinity Bureau, a government agency that uses random selection to decide who lives and who dies. In a world where overpopulation has led to pollution, a crippled economy, and a world in crisis, he has accepted the bureau’s activities as a necessity. That is until he meets April McIntyre.

April has every reason to be suspicious of Roman. He works for the Divinity Bureau, which sent her father to an early grave. However, he is also sweet and loyal, and unbeknownst to her, he saved her life. As Roman and April fall deeper in love, the deeper they are thrust into the politics of deciding who lives and who dies. Someone wants April dead. And the bureau’s process of random selection may not be so random after all.

I give The Divinity Bureau by Tessa Clare 5 out 5 of Romantic Dystopian Stars! Wow, what a book! I haven’t read a dystopian novel in a while and after reading this story I will be sure to pick up more for sure. Even though this was a bit of a slow read in the beginning, I was captivated from Chapter One!😄 I fell in love with the characters and loved seeing April and Roman’s romance unfold.

I highly enjoyed how this story was told from a dual perspective and how the plot was nice and solid. The intensity, danger, betrayal and romance made this a YA masterpiece that I won’t soon forget!

This story was action packed and think it would make an excellent film!

I was up late turning pages and was just stunned at how quickly I devoured this novel. My only problem Ms. Clare is that I have to wait for more!

Tessa Clare is the author of The Divinity Bureau. When she’s not writing, she’s an entrepreneur, an activist, a speaker, and the Managing Director of Asset Creative House.

Born in 1992, she began her early career as a concession stand attendant, a busgirl, a barista, a player’s club representative for a casino, and an administrative assistant. She also spent years working as a manager for Vacasa, whose business model and revolutionary marketing strategies would later inspire the groundwork for Asset Creative House.

The Divinity Bureau is Tessa’s debut novel about a forbidden love between a young activist and a government employee working for a corrupt bureau, set in a dystopian world. It was released in 2017.

Port Lewis, a coastal town perched on the Washington cliffs, is surrounded by dense woods, and is home to quaint coffee shops, a movie theater, a few bars, two churches, the local college, and witches, of course.

Ryder is a witch with two secrets—one about his blood and the other about his heart. Keeping the secrets hasn’t been a problem, until a tarot reading with his best friend, Liam Montgomery, who happens to be one of his secrets, starts a chain of events that can’t be undone.

Dark magic runs through Ryder’s veins. The cards have prophesized a magical catastrophe that could shake the foundation of Ryder’s life, and a vicious partnership with the one person he doesn’t want to risk.

Magic and secrets both come at a cost, and Ryder must figure out what he’s willing to pay to become who he truly is.

I give this book 4 out of 5 Prideful and Paranormal Stars! I really enjoy this LGBTQ+ romance novel. The main character, Ryder, is trans and his relationships and his emotions bleed through this paranormal romance with an intensity that I won’t soon forget. I just was so intrigued and adored Ryder!💖😄💙

This was a great novella and I read it in one sitting. It was the perfect bite sized version of Paranormal Romance’hit it and quit it’ novel. Liam and Ryder have a very intense relationship that really had me on the edge of my seat! The reason I didn’t give this 5 stars was because there is a Trigger Warning in here that is one that can get to me a bit more than others. There is a brief death of an animal but the animal comes back. YAY for that! It was probably just me because of previous experiences but thought I should mention it just incase. This book was fantastically written and new author Brooklyn Ray is sure to become very sucessful.

Overall, I recommend this book to any readers who love a good LGBT+ novel or a good paranormal romance! I have to add that I love the LGBTQ genre because I am a proud polyamorous pansexual lady!😄😉🌈

Hope everyone has a great day!💖💙💚💜💛

I didn’t have a certain state or a permanent address. I celebrated being a free spirit and the open roads were my home. I lived for meeting new people and experiencing life to the fullest! Since I was institutionalized most of my childhood and I was stuck in a white hospital setting, when I escaped “the system”, I spread my wings and I lived life to the fullest. Some looked down on me and said I was just another “homeless hippie” but for me I was finally just free. You guys know I like to share how I have a connection to the author or the story but back to the book! Book Review: A Justified Bitch by H.G. McKinnis~ 5 Stars

Title: A Justified Bitch

Author: H.G. McKinnis

Rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Amazon Link*~*Goodreads Link

It takes a guilty bastard to make a justified bitch.

When a severed finger shows up on her doorstep in a seedy section of Las Vegas, Helen Taylor does not freak out. She’s already crazy, as evidenced by her junk-stuffed house and its ever-growing population of cats. There’s also Bobby, her long-dead husband. Helen talks to him regularly, and Bobby talks back.

The finger and the brutal murder it reveals are more than a hoarding cat lady with a phantom husband can ignore. Helen’s a suspect, and she ends up in jail. Summoned by the detective on the case, Helen’s sister Pat arrives from Phoenix with two teen-age boys in tow.

While Helen is AWOL from a mental facility, another gruesome murder is discovered. Pat, the boys, and the detective struggle to separate fact from insanity, but it takes power beyond the ordinary to bring the truth to light.

I give this book 5 out of 5 Cuckoo Stars! I just LOVED this book! This was definitely an unconventional type of read. This story was just fun and made me feel better about my insanity. That’s right here goes the part where Dani brings her crazy filled life into the story!

I have battled a very severe and rare mental illness since the age of 7 that has been an ongoing struggle since then. I am thankfully on a stable dose of medication and am able to function properly as possible but that was not always the case.

My illness mostly manifested because of continuous severe traumas I faced for three years as a young child. Like the main character, I lost touch of reality and used different methods to escape and deal with my pain and suffering. These unhealthy “coping” skills continued into adulthood and will stay with me lifelong.

I was given every medication regimen in the book and damaged my liver by young adulthood by medicines doctors have given me. I was put through crazy clinical trials because of having this rare mental illness. I was strapped down to beds for up to 14 hours at a time. I have a messed up disc in my back from caretakers taking me down to “protect” me. I have received electric shock therapy. I grew up in the system, group homes, residential treatment facilities and mental hospitals. By the age of 18, I have been placed in a faciliy of some sort 50 something times.

My point to explaining all of this is that I could relate to everything the main character was going through. I knew what it was like to lose touch of reality because the present was too painful to face and the author did a great job of describing the symtoms of how everything feels and works. This book was well written and the descriptions were amazing.

Most of the time a book like this may be a trigger for me but not with how the author portrayed Helen. Helen was crazy and it made you laugh.

She also was loveable and you could understand why she was the way she was even though she is a suspect. All the other characters were fantastic as well! I loved Jordan and Helen’s two friends that work at the Salon! The way the facility and the medication adjustments were described were a great portrayal of the battle people with psychosis face. Helen’s stay and escape from the treatment facility was realistic. Many might be like “this shit doesn’t happen”, they must have never been institutionalized with a severe mental illness.

This book made me laugh and also was very suspenseful. At one moment your laughing at Helen, the next you are having the hairs on the back of your neck stick up because of the intensity of this case. I can’t wait to see what the author has in store for us next!😄 I highly recommend this book and it is definitely Dani-approved! I hope I was able to explain my review well and hope everyone has a fantastic day!!! Much love to you all!❤🤗😘💖

I grew up in Las Vegas where attending grade school meant hanging out with the children of scientists, cocktail waitresses and dealers. As children we all went to the strip to see shows in the hotels, eat in the restaurants and eye the tourists. Even at a very young age I knew our city was special. After graduating from UNLV, I worked for a number of years as a nude dresser in various production shows on the strip. Nude dancers aren’t actually naked. They may dance without bras, but make up for the privilege by loading themselves down with many pounds of feathers, rhinestones and sequins.

After the last big feather show closed, I started retraining as an Audio Visual Technician. Learning about the new electronic equipment we use to enhance the convention meeting experience fascinates me. Las Vegas is an unconventional town, and it provides me with endless opportunities and excitement.

Book Review: Wicked Dance by Olivia Boothe

I want to thank Olivia Boothe for providing me with an eARC in exchange for an honest review. I appreciate this opportunity. All opinions and views expressed are my own.

Former dance student Sara Hart had aspired to grace the stage on Broadway, but a reckless decision forced her to renounce that dream. Years later, while struggling with an ungratifying job and an even more unsatisfying love life, she literally stumbles upon a dangerously sexy stranger who sends her heart—and her body—into hyperdrive. His touch makes her feel alive again and sparks a desire to rebuild her dance career. But Sara is still haunted by the demons of her past. One dark lie could cost her everything.

Real estate mogul Tom Wright caters to the rich and famous. He lives the life of the perfect bachelor, partying hard and dating the most beautiful women in Manhattan. But he has one golden rule—no commitments. Ever. Then he meets sexy Sara Hart, and something about her makes him want to throw the damn rule book out the window. Every time she’s near, the blood in his veins pulses with a raging fire he can’t contain. But Tom’s shadowed history is resurfacing, unearthing ghosts he’d rather remain buried.

Will this wicked dance be their last?

I give this book 5 out of 5 Romantic Stars! When I read this book last week I was quite impressed that this was the author’s debut novel! I just loved the intensity of Sara and Tom first meeting. I really enjoyed both characters and thought they were well developed. I felt like I could also relate to Sara’s pain from her tragedy and how she felt. I even felt I could relate to Tom with his mistrust and feelings.

The way that Olivia Boothe wrote these two damaged souls’ romance was amazing and had me wanting more.

This romance still sticks with me days later from all of the feels it gave me and I know that this is a novel that I won’t soon forget. I can’t wait to see what Olivia Boothe has in store for us next! This romance touched my heart and helped me believe in love through our tragedies and hardships.

Book Review: A Cruel Kind of Beautiful by Michelle Hazen

A Cruel Kind of Beautiful (#1 Sex, Love and Rock n Roll Series) by Michelle Hazen

I want to thank NetGalley and Barclay Publicity for providing me with an eARC in exchange for an honest review. I appreciate this opportunity.

If you can’t get to the Big O, can you get to the happily ever after?

Jera McKnight loves music, swoons for hot guys, but sucks at sex. Jacob Tate is her perfect storm: a pun-loving nude model with a heart as big as his record collection.

When a newspaper-delivery accident lands him in her living room, he’s almost tempting enough to make her forget she’s never been able to please a man—in bed or out of it. Sure, he laughs at her obscure jokes, and he’ll even accept a PG-rating if it means he gets time with her, but he’s also hiding something. And it has everything to do with the off-limits room in his apartment.

Jera pours all her confusion and longing into her drum kit, which pays off when her band lands the record deal of their dreams. Except just like Jacob, it might be too good to come without a catch.

She doesn’t know if her music is good enough to attract a better contract, or if she’s enough to tempt a man like Jacob to give up his secrets, even if they could fix her problems between the sheets. But if this rocker girl is too afraid to bet on herself, she might just end up playing to an empty house.

Fans of Alice Clayton’s Wallbanger or Kylie Scott will love this addictive new series because of its quick sense of humor and adorable found family. Click now if you want to instantly escape into the world of Jera and Jacob’s romance.

I give this book 5 out of 5 Head Banging Stars! I just loved this hilarious and rock worthy romance! Jera was absolutely hilarious and just my type of girl!

She was in a rock band and had a hilarious sarcastic attitude. Jacob was just the perfect guy and totally swoon worthy!

This book was hilarious, had a great plot, fantastic characters, sweet romance and had rock n roll, all that made a rock chick like me have the happiest of feels!

I loved this story and think it was well written. I highly recommend this book, it’s a rock chick’s romance novel masterpiece! P.S. You don’t have to be a rock chick to enjoy this. Lol.

A Murder for the Books by Victoria Gilbert

bFn9LgMbb0l1u.gif

Fleeing a disastrous love affair, university librarian Amy Webber moves in with her aunt in a quiet, historic mountain town in Virginia. She quickly busies herself with managing a charming public library that requires all her attention with its severe lack of funds and overabundance of eccentric patrons. The last thing she needs is a new, available neighbor whose charm lures her into trouble. Dancer-turned-teacher and choreographer Richard Muir inherited the farmhouse next door from his great-uncle, Paul Dassin. But town folklore claims the house’s original owner was poisoned by his wife, who was an outsider. It quickly became water under the bridge, until she vanished after her sensational 1925 murder trial. Determined to clear the name of the woman his great-uncle loved, Richard implores Amy to help him investigate the case. Amy is skeptical until their research raises questions about the culpability of the town’s leading families… including her own. When inexplicable murders plunge the quiet town into chaos, Amy and Richard must crack open the books to reveal a cruel conspiracy and lay a turbulent past to rest in A Murder for the Books, the first installment of Victoria Gilbert’s Blue Ridge Library mysteries.

I give “A Murder for the Books”5 out of 5 Cozy Stars! I loved this fun and bookish cozy mystery! I am always drawn to books that are book related in some way and it makes me feel proud to be a bibliophile. This book intrigued me from the very first line, “Anyone who claims there are no stupid questions has never worked in a library.” I could relate to this sentence because I am a member of my local Friends of the Library Association and so I do volunteer work at the library, book sales and etc. I also volunteer at a small local bookstore when my body is able and receive new books as payment! Which is awesome! I have been asked some crazy questions to say the least. I loved the characters in this book and thought they were well written. At one point, I thought the book was a bit slow but the surprising twists and everything else made up for it resulting in my 5 star rating. I also loved how descriptive this book was with the historic town!😁 I definitely recommend this cozy!💖📚

The cause of death is determined to be an allergic reaction, but Syd and Toby are sniffing out something fishy. When Syd met Ulla, it was clear she was distasteful and rude. And right before the event, Syd spotted some behind-the-scenes drama between Ulla and her manager. As they begin to investigate, they realize there is no shortage of suspects, and Maggie is at the top of the list. Now Syd and Toby must claw their way to the truth before everything goes paws up at their animal shelter in Death by a Whisker by national bestselling author T. C. LoTempio.

Review: I give this book 4 out of 5 Cozy Kitty Stars! This was a highly enjoyable cozy mystery. I loved how this book was perfect if you are an animal/cat lover. Meow! I have 5 feline friends, 1 canine friend and 2 turtles. So you can definitely say I am an animal enthusiast/crazy cat lady! This book also had some bookish elements that made me oh so happy! The story was well written and was entertaining. The only issue issue I had was that this was second in the series and I have made the mistake of choosing a few books off NetGalley that were part of a series that I haven’t read so the characters were missing a little depth. This is my fault for not paying close enough attention but overall, I highly recommend this book!😄📚

Scones and Scoundrels by Molly MacRae

Inversgail, on the west coast of the Scottish Highlands, welcomes home native daughter and best-selling environmental writer Daphne Wood. Known as the icon of ecology, Daphne will spend three months as the author in residence for the Inversgail schools. Janet Marsh and her business partners at Yon Bonnie Books are looking forward to hosting a gala book signing for her. Daphne, who hasn’t set foot in Scotland in thirty years, is . . . eccentric. She lives in the Canadian wilderness, in a cabin she built herself, with only her dog for a companion, and her people skills have developed a few rough-hewn edges. She and the dog (which she insists on bringing with her) cause problems for the school, the library, and the bookshop even before they get to Inversgail. Then, on the misty night they arrive, a young man—an American who’d spent a night in the B above Yon Bonnie Books—is found dead outside a pub. Daphne did her Inversgail homework and knows that Janet and her partners solved a previous murder. She tries to persuade them to join her in uncovering the killer and the truth. To prove she’s capable, she starts poking and prying. But investigating crimes can be murder, and Daphne ends up dead, poisoned by scones from the tearoom at Yon Bonnie Books. Now, to save the reputation of their business—not to mention the reputation of their scones—Janet and her partners must solve both murders. And Daphne’s dog might be able to help them, if only they can get it to stop howling. . .

Review: I give this book 3 out of 5 Cozy Stars! I liked this book, overall. Just like the two previous cozies, this book had a lot to do with bookish things. I really enjoyed the setting and the mystery of the story but the main character just didn’t sit well with me. Rude people just make me a bit uncomfortable. Also it was a bit hard to catch up with all the characters. The book was well written so I look forward to checking out the author’s other books.

*~Review: Little Broken Things by Nicole Baart~5 Stars~*

Blurb:

An engrossing and suspenseful novel for fans of Liane Moriarty and Amy Hatvany about an affluent suburban family whose carefully constructed facade starts to come apart with the unexpected arrival of an endangered young girl.

I have something for you. When Quinn Cruz receives that cryptic text message from her older sister Nora, she doesn’t think much of it. They haven’t seen each other in nearly a year and thanks to Nora’s fierce aloofness, their relationship consists mostly of infrequent phone calls and an occasional email or text. But when a haunted Nora shows up at the lake near Quinn’s house just hours later, a chain reaction is set into motion that will change both of their lives forever.

Nora’s “something” is more shocking than Quinn could have ever imagined: a little girl, cowering, wide-eyed, and tight-lipped. Nora hands her over to Quinn with instructions to keep her safe, and not to utter a word about the child to anyone, especially not their buttoned-up mother who seems determined to pretend everything is perfect. But before Quinn can ask even one of the million questions swirling around her head, Nora disappears, and Quinn finds herself the unlikely caretaker of a girl introduced simply as Lucy.

While Quinn struggles to honor her sister’s desperate request and care for the lost, scared Lucy, she fears that Nora may have gotten involved in something way over her head—something that will threaten them all. But Quinn’s worries are nothing compared to the firestorm that Nora is facing. It’s a matter of life and death, of family and freedom, and ultimately, about the lengths a woman will go to protect the ones she loves.

Review: Wow this book was fantastic! I was at the edge of my seat with this one and was turning pages all through the night! I really enjoyed this author’s writing and multi-layered characters. This was a book that can show you how quick family secrets and deceit can spiral down into chaos! I give this book 5 out of 5 stars and would definitely recommend checking this book out.

Synopsis: Abby Williams is a lawyer who works with chemicals and the environment based in Chicago. Different days of the week she has different men in her bed but she feels all alone. Abby battles her demons and has faced obsessive thoughts from her past. Ten years ago as a graduating senior Abby was bullied furiously by the “it” crowd whose main star was Abby’s childhood friend, Kaycee Mitchell. Even though she hated Kaycee and her crowd in high school she felt there was something she could not shake.

Abby constantly keeps bringing herself back to the past and trying to put the pieces together. Abby finally stumbles across a complaint made by someone about the plant and Abby and her team head to her home town the Barrens. She heads to the Barrens to seek justice and ends up facing more than she could think possible.

Abby has to face; corruption, her abusive father, old high school bullies and new horrors in her home town. She runs into everyone from her childhood in this small town. Will Abby bring justice and be able to fight her personal demons?

Review: Omg! I loved this book! Not only is written by the awesome and sexy Krysten Ritter, it was fantastic. I give this crime thriller 4.5 stars out of 5 stars. I felt like I could feel all of Abby’s emotions and a lot of the traumas that happened in this book I could relate to. At moments it was hard for me to turn the page because of the intensity, but it kept me pulling me back in. I really enjoyed this book and was satisfied I requested it through NetGalley. My only issue, which really wasn’t an issue was the very end I didn’t know if they were leaving it open or that’s how she wanted to finish things. This book showed the reality of how bullying effects people and the horror. This was a terrific crime thriller. I highly recommend this book!

Review: From the beginning this book was intense! I give this book 4 out of 5 stars! I was on the edge of my seat! I was up late turning pages and made sure to keep the lights on! I really enjoyed the main characters in this story! The only thing I didn’t like that I felt Jenna would be more of a strong woman and that is the impression I got in the beginning but it seemed her character shifted a bit. This was still a gripping tale nonetheless and I highly recommend this psychological suspense to anyone who is looking for a great crime fictional read! I think this duo and book was very fun and intense. I can’t wait to see what lies ahead for Kane and Alton!
