Nina Sheridan’s on a timeout adventure in the Colorado Mountains. She needs distance from her clueless fiancé, distance to decide whether she wants to spend the rest of her life with a man who doesn’t care enough to learn how she takes her coffee.
Arriving in a blinding snowstorm at the A-Frame she rented, she comes face to face with the most amazing man she’s ever seen. Minutes later, when he kicks her out of his house, she goes head to head with him.
Beyond angry because she’s flown half a world away to start her timeout adventure, not to mention her sinuses hurt, she heads back down the mountain and ends up in a ditch. Unable to extricate herself, she gives up, hopes for rescue and falls asleep in the backseat.
The next morning she wakes up in the amazing man’s bed and she’s sick as a dog.
Holden Maxwell spends days nursing her back to health and then he spends the next two weeks trying to convince her to take her Colorado adventure further, in other words, make it permanent and take a gamble on him.
Nina has a tough time fighting her attraction to Max, especially when it seems all Max’s friends, her mother and stepdad and the whole town want them together and both she and Max get embroiled in the murder of Max’s ex-friend and the town of Gnaw Bone’s most detested resident – a man everyone has motive to kill, especially Max.
Kristen Ashley was born in Gary, Indiana, USA and nearly killed her mother and herself making it into the world, seeing as she had the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck (already attempting to accessorise and she hadn’t taken her first breath!). Her mother said they took Kristen away, put her Mom back in her room, her mother looked out the window, and Gary was on fire (Dr. King had been assassinated four days before). Kristen’s Mom remembered thinking it was the end of the world. Quite the dramatic beginning….Nothing’s changed.
Kristen grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana and has lived in Denver, Colorado and the West Country of England. Thus, she’s blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her family was (is) loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write. They all lived together on a very small farm in a small farm town in the heartland. She grew up with Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon and Whitesnake (and the wardrobes that matched). Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music, clothes and love was a good way to grow up. And as she keeps growing, it keeps getting better.
A Cincinnati detective questions everything he knows–and everyone he trusts–in the new novel of romantic suspense from New York Times bestseller Karen Rose.
Homicide detective Adam Kimble is no stranger to battling demons. But Meredith Fallon is a different kind of weakness: one that could actually be good for him, if only he would let himself depend on her. Meredith has loved Adam for a year, and seeing how hard he’s worked to deal with his PTSD makes her feelings only stronger, but she respects his needs. Her work keeps her busy anyway: she counsels sexually abused women like Mallory Martin to help them reintegrate into the world.
But someone doesn’t want Meredith helping women like Mallory, and Meredith finds herself in the crosshairs of a very determined killer. Adam would risk anything for her, but they’ll soon find out she isn’t the only target…
I give this book 4 out of 5 Suspenseful Stars! This story was a great crime thriller that will have you turning pages like crazy! I picked up this title because I battle a severe form of PTSD and sometimes I enjoy reading how others cope with it whether it be fiction or not. The author had great descriptions of the characters emotions and you can feel the intensity through the pages. I love a good crime thriller and Karen Rose definitely delivered!
The reason I am not giving this book 5 Stars is because I had no idea it was part of a series and felt I missed out a tad but overall this story can totally be read on a standalone basis. I recommend this story to those who love a good crime thriller and are ready for an action packed plot!

Synopsis:Macy’s school officially classifies her as “disturbed,” but Macy isn’t interested in how others define her. She’s got more pressing problems: her mom can’t move off the couch, her dad’s in prison, her brother’s been kidnapped by Child Protective Services, and now her best friend isn’t speaking to her. Writing in a dictionary format, Macy explains the world in her own terms—complete with gritty characters and outrageous endeavors. With an honesty that’s both hilarious and fearsome, slowly Macy reveals why she acts out, why she can’t tell her incarcerated father that her mom’s cheating on him, and why her best friend needs protection . . . the kind of protection that involves Macy’s machete.
What attracted me to this book was the cover and the title, then I read the premise and was sold. This book meant more to me than pages in a book, I understood Macy. I was Macy.
I saw many reviews on this book and so many DNF this book because of the spelling and grammatical errors. I understand the need for proper grammer but this was about Macy expressing herself. I thought it was beautiful literature!
This was beyond realistic. When Macy battled Child Protective Services and dealt with all her raw and intense emotions, I was brought back to when I was considered the “disturbed” girl who didn’t have a chance in the system but proved them all wrong.
Being a teenager and facing more things than many adults will ever encounter in their lifetime is tough. When it’s the normal to go without food or deal with “the system” tearing your family apart, it’s tough as a teenager. You’re dealing with all these hormones and messed up emotions but have no idea what to do with it all because you have no choice but to be strong. I have seen the scary side of “the system” and my normal has been “disturbed” just like Macy’s. Macy comes off as a pain in the ass and an angry/crazy teenager. When Macy has all this on the outside, all she really is doing is trying to survive and hide her brokenness. I enjoyed all the characters in this story and loved their backgrounds. Alma and George were great in their sweet but complicated way. Macy’s mother was a complete hot mess. All the characters in this story were realistic in their own messed up and unique way.
This book made me laugh, smile, and cry but overall was an amazing experience that I will never forget. I can’t express enough how hilarious this book was and realistic at the same time. I highly recommend this book to whoever can relate or wants to experience something different! I am so glad that I was able to experience Macy’s journey and to read a disturbed girl’s masterpiece!

I bent down on my hands and knees and felt along the floor hoping not to touch anything gross. My hands grazed something odd. I felt along its edges. It was hard and didn’t seem to belong there. Now my curiosity had me crouching in the dark trying to figure out what this was. Finally I found the flashlight and clicked it on. Focusing the light, I saw the odd thing sticking up like a broken piano key. It was a floorboard upended. I pushed it to get it back into place, but all that did was make it fly up further and then completely out of the floor.
“Well, that’s just great,” I told myself.
I was here in the dark talking to myself. I dared to take a look into the floor, hoping not to find a rat family living inside or a web housing a large spider. I did find something, but it wasn’t sinister; it was a set of books in a case covered in plastic wrap. Reaching in, I pulled them out. The dust on it was at least three inches thick. This must be the special book collection Gram told me to read and to keep safe. Anything that was precious to her, she hid—like the money I found pinned to her clothing in her closet, or the other jewelry she had taped to the back of her dresser.
I brushed the dust off and opened the plastic to find four books inside. They were pretty good in size and looked to be in great condition. They didn’t have traditional covers that you’d see in a bookstore. Instead they were covered in a thick material to keep the books clean and the binding solid. I pulled the first book from the case and placed the others back into the hole. Covering it back with the loose board was easier than taking it out. I held the book close, and instead of going upstairs I went to my book nook. I had just washed the blankets the day before. Cozied up in the nook, I stared out the window one last time before opening the book. I decided I would only read for a little while before going up to bed. Gram did want me to read them after all.
I opened the first page to the title page; it was blank. I flipped the page and snuggled deeper into the blankets preparing to read the first chapter and that’s when things changed.
I am Southern California native, now living in New Jersey! How did that happen? I am married and have two beautiful little girls who love to read just like Mommy. I have had a passion for books since I was a little girl and an imagination for just as long. I hope my books can inspire others to read and to write too.
So I wanted to share with you guys my newfounded love of e-reading through kindle. When I first started blogging I was strictly print books. I LOVED the way they smelled and the way they felt. Okay so I am guilty of being a #bookmolester I spent all these years thinking electronic reading was just over-rated bullshit but I kept hearing about everyone receiving EARCs in exchange for honest reviews. So I began to ponder. I mean free books but electronic. Also these books were books not available to the general public yet and so were before publication! That sounded like something that was badass to me! Hell to the yeah buttttt…..
My print books were still calling my name and wanted all the love and attention they deserved. Well all I was reading was the used variety which is still great. Old news can still be good news. The final thing that let me cut the apron strings of my print books was the space issue. Not only did I want to read these cool books before publication, I had no more space for books. Hell, I have some packed up in boxes and on top of dresser drawers. They are overwhelming and everywhere. So you catch the drift. I am a freaking book hoarder and have no place to live!!!😵😵😵
Well shortly after my epiphany, I was gifted a 50$ Amazon card and my first thought is what do we need diapers or toliet paper? The first thing that popped up when I pulled up Amazon’s home page was a ‘super one day sale’ for a Kindle Fire HD 8 for $49.99! I was like damn… I just did a list of pros and cons and the only thing I knew was that I couldn’t afford some kind of e-reader. So I went through the house and searched for anything that we could need at the moment. Nothing… Nada… For the first time in God knows how long, we had enough of our necessities.
I fought with myself. Even though it was supposed to be a gift for me, I never use any extra money on myself. So finally I said “Fuck it! I am going to get the darn thing! What’s the worse that can happen? I can return it if it doesn’t work out!” I know this is a bit emotional about just switching to an e-reader but for me I thought I was giving of my true joy of reading with the touch of the pages and the great feeling of holding a beautiful covered hardback and switching to this simple electronic device! 😢😢😢 I am technologically impaired to say the least as well… I felt doomed for sure.
I received the box in 2 days thanks to getting a free membership to prime (which I want to talk about at another time). I unboxed it and thought “well atleast it’s light weight and pretty.” It was this awesome punch red. Well pretty much this thing was easy to figure out and handle. No screaming at the device and begging someone else to fix it! Yay!!! I mean hell, I am writing this post on my kindle now. Hell to the yeah! I was so excited and could not hide it! !! *happy dancing *💃💃💃
So to sum things up, Dani was completely wrong!!! I didn’t even need the tutorial to figure out this bad boy. The kindle books app was a godsend!! I was able to go into there and type in ‘thriller’ and would put a filter for ‘lowest to highest’. I would end up getting so many titles with any genre for free. There were so many sites that would show me different books in different genres for free everyday!! Like Bookbub! Say, “What, What!!!” To be real with you guys, I have over 900 titles that were all free from the kindle app. I shit you not!!!
I was scared of the controls when I was wrong again, everything is ‘easy peasy’. I could even make the fonts and such larger so my blind ass could see better. I was able to get all these free eARCs from authors and publishers via NetGalley that were fantastic and ones that were before publication. I just loved the results and you know how hard this is as a woman to say… “I am glad I was wrong.”
I have been enjoying my relationship with my kindle and loving all her benefits. We have become great friends with benefits and I have named her “My Side Bitch.” What made me fall deeply in love with my kindle was text to speech. I know that might sound strange but then again if you know me, I am stange.
I battle with mild dyslexia. When I read a book what will take most people 6 hours of continuous reading would take me two days. I have battled this for a long time and it can make my passion of reading very difficult.
One day I was on WordPress chatting up my friend Carrie @ Carrie’s Book Reviews and she mentions using TTS and I’m like “wait, what?” I seriously thought that you had to buy audio(which is ridiculously high priced) to have any kind of assistance reading. She let me know about it and I did what any person would do, I googlevestigated. I found out that I could use TTS to read along with mostly all the titles in so many different voices and all my pretty much every title I needed!🙌🙌🙌 I read the benefits it had for dyslexia and other stuff people have to go through. I was jaw dropping amazed by this. So I had to try it out.
I figured out how to set it up and OMG. I was able to read like a normal person. I don’t mean to say someone with dyslexia is not normal but I felt at ease. I felt safe. I felt that I was able to read and be comfortable with what the words really said and was able to go along smoothly. I can’t even explain how good of a feeling that this was. I couldn’t be thankful enough that I found a way to preserve space, save money and get free books, and to finally read comfortably.
*Update: I forgot to say I have rheumatoid arthritis and fibromyalgia and the kindle has eased my pain. It’s hard for me to even type at times so a kindle helps me because I don’t have to worry about the pain of holding a book.*
I can not recommend the kindle enough and they even have certified refurbished ones that are fantastic! I had a gift card for Christmas and was able to buy one for my son for 23$ including tax because it was refurbished and a 5th generation!😊 It was in mint condition and worked beautifully. Now about the top link and such, the link is to get the Amazon kindle app. You can download it on whatever device you like and because I am an Amazon affiliate it will benefit me as well. I ordered this book via Amazon Kindle a couple months ago. All views and opinions are my own.
Mackenzie’s Distraction is a New Adult Romance about a young lady with a rough past and a promising future. Just when her career is within reach, tragedy strikes. A terrible accident and a family secret turn Mackenzie’s world upside down. She’s sure her life can’t become any more complicated, then she meets Trevor. Will he be just what she needs or the distraction that pushes her over the edge?
This book is not erotica, but does have sexual content. It includes some curse words, but not many. It doesn’t have any major violence
Review: I give this book 5 out of 5 Heartfelt Stars! From the very beginning of this book there was twists and tragedy. I loved the characterisation in this book and felt that I could really relate to Mackenzie in so many ways. This book shows you what can come out of tragedy and the pursue of young love.
I have been reading pieces of this book and when I got a lot of time on my hands I completely devoured it, even though I should be focusing on all of my ARCs! This story was what I needed while I am facing a crossroads in my life and could look back and see the hardships I survived. I felt like I could feel the author’s passion through the pages and it was a truly heartfelt experience.
I loved Angie Dokos’ style of writing and can’t wait to read her next adventure! I will hold Mackenzie and this book close to my heart and she won’t soon be forgotten!
I want to thank Becca Fox for providing me with an eARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions and views expressed are my own. I appreciate this opportunity.

It only takes six weeks for them to realize they have both experienced great loss. Surrounded by mayhem and high school drama – could they be the key to each other’s healing?
Review: I give this book 5 out of 5 sweet stars! I will have to admit when I agreed to read this book I was skeptical especially since it was a teenager love story. I was scared it would just be the usual cliche boy meets girl but I couldn’t be more wrong. I Dare You To Love Me by Becca Fox was so much more than that. I also met Becca in the blogosphere and liked her as a person so was scared that if I had to write a negative review I would be devastated. Thank God, when I read this book I was utterly pleased. Becca Fox created a sensational, unpredictable and heartwarming romance that I won’t soon forget. I loved how well written this story was and how the character’s stories unfold.
I am so glad I picked up I Dare You To Love Me and can’t wait until the next novel Mrs. Fox has in store for us!If you are looking for something sweet, that will make you tear up, has twists and turns and is unpredictable I would recommend reading this book!
Becca Fox was that strange girl in high school, who always seemed to have her nose in a book. She didn’t talk much because, more often than not, she was daydreaming about different fantasy worlds. During class, under the guise of taking notes, she wrote scenes for her works in progress.
Becca is a bit more social now but still enjoys reading, writing, and daydreaming. She lives in Phoenix, Arizona with her husband, a fat orange tabby cat, and a forever-puppy.
I want to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for providing me with an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review. I appreciate this opportunity. Title: The Secret Mother
