Christmas at the Little Duck Pond Cafe by Rosie Green-Rachel’s Random Resources

Christmas at The Little Duck Pond Cafe

by Rosie Green

Amazon US / UK / CAAU

Fen has always hated being the center of attention.

She loves her new job, working behind the scenes at the Little Duck Pond Cafe and baking the scrumptious cakes that have helped its reputation soar. But frankly, she’d rather scrub the public toilet floor with a toothbrush than have to come out and talk to the customers.

She’s always been happy to stay in the background as long as she has a good supply of books to escape into. That’s her kind of romance – the fictional sort where she can read about other people taking a chance on love, but she doesn’t have to risk her own heart.

But that was before Ethan Fox arrived in the village and turned her world upside down. Ethan is a leading light in the local amateur dramatics theatre company and Fen knows he’s way out of her league.

But when the popular village Christmas pantomime hits a crisis, Fen and Ethan find themselves thrown together. Can Fen overcome her shyness and find the courage to step on stage and save the day?

I love this series!💖 Rosie Green creates wonderful cozies that are sure to warm your heart and make you smile!😀 This book definitely meets the standards of it’s previous works. I enjoyed the sweet but well written plot and would definitely recommend Rosie Green’s novel to those whom love a feel good cozy!💖

Author Bio

Rosie Green has been scribbling stories ever since she was little. Back then they were rip-roaring adventure tales with a young heroine in perilous danger of falling off a cliff or being tied up by ‘the baddies’. Thankfully, Rosie has moved on somewhat, and now much prefers to write romantic comedies that melt your heart and make you smile, with really not much perilous danger involved at all, unless you count the heroine losing her heart in love.

Rosie’s brand new series of novellas is centered on life in a village café. The first two stories in the series are: Spring at The Little Duck Pond Cafe and Summer at The Little Duck Pond Café.

NeverHaven (Vision of the Elder#1) by Michael Garza-YA Bound

I want to thank YA Bound Blog Tours & the author for this opportunity. All views expressed in this review are my own.😊

NeverHaven (Vision of the Elder #1)
by Michael W. Garza

Genre: YA Fiction/Occult & Supernatural
Release Date: October 8th 2018
NeverHaven Press

Summary:

The bond between twins can bend but never break.
Elizabeth is crazy, at least that’s what everyone believes. She sees things, terrible things no one wants to hear about. Her twin sister, Jessica, used to see things too, but she convinced herself long ago it was all in her head. The sixteen-year-old was left to drift through the chaos alone, abandoned by her other half. But now the darkness has come calling.

Vision of the Elder

This YA Paranormal Series follows the trail of those children forced to bear witness to the sacred rites of the Cult of the Elder. Their eyes are opened to the darkness beyond the void, and their lives are forever changed.

Book I: NeverHaven
Book II: Children of the Mark (Forthcoming)
Book III: The Crimson Door (Forthcoming)

Elizabeth gaze lowered to the gauze wrapped tightly around her wrists, and she forced herself to consider what she’d nearly done. Technically, it was a suicidal gesture. To be honest, it was her third suicidal gesture in the past four years. She’d used the razor from her father’s fancy shaver. Elizabeth didn’t want to die, she knew that. Dr. Wesley confirmed it, although Elizabeth didn’t put much stock in what her shrink said. Thinking about it made her uncomfortable, and she squirmed in her seat.

Elizabeth saw things. No one believed her. No one except Jessica had ever believed her.

Wow, this was quite the story!💖 When I first read the synopsis, I was automatically drawn to it and was more drawn to it as I realized how much I could relate in a small way to Elizabeth’s crazy reality. The writing style of this story was good and it captured my attention from beginning to end. There were a few slow moments but overall a pretty enticing read. I am very excited to see what the author brings out next! I would definitely recommend this book to those whom enjoy a good YA read.😊

The Last Ghost by Jamie Blake

Blog Tour

The Last Ghost KindleChristian Orland is dead, and everyone in his life is doing their best to understand what happened.

Especially Woe, the sixteenth Fatality, who knows that she was assigned the wrong case when she stopped his heart, but also knew she had to do it, or risk being destroyed herself.

Woe only handles expected death, and not many people expect to die in an accident. However, not many people have the history of Christian Orland. That history is now tormenting his brother Noah, the keeper of all of Christian’s dangerous secrets, his childhood friend Ellery, who he once swore he would love “until he died,” and his girlfriend Melissa, who can’t understand why she is the only person not haunted by ghosts.

Woe teams up with the Fatality who she thinks should have had Christian’s case, and the ghosts of Christian’s past to try to solve the mystery of how he ended up as her case. As they try to unravel some of Christian’s lies, they begin to uncover something far more sinister.

Together, the most important people in Christian’s life and death must work to restore order from the chaos his death caused in the lives of those who loved him, and in realms he could not imagine, before free will is lost forever.
Excerpt Reveal

The Last Ghost excerpt

The sixteenth Fatality was surprised to find herself on a bridge, but that was where her appointment book told her to go, and thus, that was where she went. Not that she had a choice either way, but she didn’t mind, she liked the order, the predetermination of things. Car after car drove by, and she watched them, looking closely, knowing all the while that they couldn’t see her. A little after eight in the morning, she noticed a car moving erratically on the bridge. She watched as the car seemed to spin, and then crashed through the wooden guard rail and into the water below. She looked over the edge of the bridge as the car; front end first, began to sink into the depths. She peered down the road, waiting for another car to come, some passerby to notice the broken guard rail, someone to help the passengers. After a few minutes passed, she began to wait for someone entirely different.

Knowing that too much time had gone by for there to be a legitimate chance of rescue, she floated down to where the car had entered the water, looking around expectantly for the twelfth Fatality to come and bring a life to an end. He didn’t come. She started to panic, aware of the pain the people in the car must feel. She felt the familiar pulse of the appointment book as the realization began to overtake her. “This is wrong. This is not how it is supposed to be, ”she murmured, as she dove into the water, passed through the passenger side door of the car, and gently took the right hand of the young man, unconscious and bleeding in the front seat. Her icy touch went up through the fingertips, up the arm, and across his chest as it stopped the faintly beating heart. She pulled herself out of the water, dry, but still shivering, and walked back towards the bridge to wait. For a Fatality, she hated the process of death. She had heard that she did not have the glamorous part, that there were various other beings that could comfort humans. Beings whose presence was welcomed, as they said their last goodbyes, or made the pain stop. That was not her assignment. Eventually, sirens blaring, the rescue workers came, and it was with a dull throb that she realized they were already too late by the time that she got to the bridge that day. She had three other appointments that morning, all in hospitals, which was where she normally lingered. She knew some of the other Fatalities who spent time in hospitals, but was not in the mood to socialize with them, to tell them about her terrible day. She never truly felt like one of them anyway. Instead, she knew where she had to go, she just didn’t want to visit that place.

Book Review

This was an enjoyable read! I have been having some health concerns so have been laid up on bed rest so this book surely took my mind off of things! I liked the inventive plot of the story and the book had a unique all around feel about it. I didn’t enjoy the characters as much as the storyline so my rating is about a 3.75 but never the less, I feel that the writing style was good and unique! I always enjoy unique stories mixed with the paranormal and I am interested in reading Jamie Blake’s other works!

MY REVIEW:

Belonging: A small town romance (Trewton Royd Novellas Book 2)

Belonging: A small town romance by Rhoda Baxter
My rating: 5 of 5 fantastic stars!!!😀

Belonging by Rhoda Baxter is a 2018 publication.

I just loved this novella by Rhoda Baxter!❤💙💚💛 This was a fantastic read to help me escape a little.😊 Many people don’t prefer novellas because of many authors not being able to pack enough punch into their books and I can agree to a point that this can happen but with Ms. Baxter’s novella, I was in love! She was able to craft an excellent book in under 150 pages and gave me all the feels and exceeded my expectations. Belonging by Rhoda Baxter has fantastic characters, a steady plot and it all was woven together with an outstanding writing style!💛💚💙 I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a good read that can be gobbled up within a few hours or so.😁 I can’t wait for the chance to see what Ms. Baxter comes out with next and when time allows me to read her past works! Hands down, a five star read.☆☆☆☆☆

Excerpt

Merza:

Last September, I was elected to the Wolesi Jirga in Afghanistan’s National Assembly. My parents had protested my running, and they regularly spoke of their wayward son to neighbours and friends, sometimes even in my presence. By now, their attitude has subsided into a stinging disapproval and regret which pervades our house as if an undesirable visitor has settled in to stay. As for me, I’ve borne a lot to run for this seat and am pleased with my win. During the lead up to the election, I’d organized a few public events to encourage voters but then began to hear with sickening frequency about threats made to candidates, campaigners and election workers alike. Voters were told to stay away from polling stations. In small villages, the warnings were direct and ominous, communicated via written letters posted on mosque doors and other public buildings. In Kabul, the intimidation came over the radio, distant and impersonal. This, I decided, I could live with; I continued my campaign with no immediate repercussions.

So when the telephone call came three weeks ago, I was caught off guard. We warn you today, on behalf of Servants of Islam, to stop working for the infidel. If you continue, you will be regarded as the enemy of Islam and will be killed. The caller hung up before I could. I hadn’t said a word. My hands were shaking; my breath was short. My insides turned over more than once as I stood paralyzed beside the phone; my eyes glazed over, staring at the living room wall. Rattled and anxious, I didn’t tell anyone – not my sister, not my parents, not even my friends. My actions could not, should not, affect anyone else, I thought.

I flinch when the policeman knocks heavily on my window. He stands beside a large blue sign that proclaims Ring of Steel with Police below in white lettering. An AK-47 is casually resting along his right arm, an Afghan flag patch on his shoulder. The classy silver watch on his left wrist looks out of place. I put the driver’s window down and turn up the heat.

Assalaam alaikum. Sir, I need to see your ID. Where are you going today?” The officer is polite but firm as he scrutinizes the back seat. The badge clipped to his left front pocket dangles by my face.

“Going to buy some firewood. I’ve just come from Zuhr prayers at the Id Gah Mosque,” I say, reasoning that if I mention prayers it will go quicker.

I hand over my ID, uncertain what I will do if he asks for money. Five years ago, there would not have been any concern about a potential bribe, as police officers were almost non-existent. When using government services, I will occasionally give small amounts of money if I can’t seen any other way to get ahead, a practice my father says is just “doing business.” But I truly resent the culture of corruption that policemen and other government officials have become a part of.

He stares at the photo, at me, and then back at the photo. A sense of familiarity creeps in but my anxiousness doesn’t let me focus on it. He turns my ID over in a slow, pensive movement, the card in his palm, picture side down.

“For your information, I’m a parliamentarian. I was elected to the Wolesi Jirga last year. We’re aiming to decrease corruption,” I say defiantly, trying to cut off all ideas of a bribe.

Suddenly, he shifts the AK-47 into his hand and points it at the rear of my car. “I need to see the trunk.” I glimpse his index finger on the trigger.

*2 Books in 1 Tour* Cupid Fucks Up & My Troyboy is a Twat by Paula Houseman-Update @ End of Post As Well!

I would like to thank Rachel @ Rachel’s Random Resources and the author providing me with the e-ARCs in exchange for and honest review. I appreciate this wonderful opportunity and all views expressed are my own.

Cupid F*cks Up

Ruth Roth is a straight shooter. Pity Cupid’s not.

Smart-mouth Ruth is an inspirational humour columnist for a popular women’s magazine. Recently divorced, she has found the love of her life. Without any help, mind you, from the little fat love god. Ruth has decided she herself is her one and only.

And she’s in a comfy place. Why wouldn’t she be? No need to yell ‘Put the bloody toilet seat down!’ No need to hoover toe-nail clippings off the carpet.

But then a silver-tongued Prince Charming fronts up in his shiny Merc and tickles her discarded, little-girl fantasies. He tells her their love is written in the stars.

It must be a misprint.

A romance with this particular PC is not so PC! Still …

Ruth’s life plays out more like ancient myth than fairytale. And what hot-blooded woman can resist forbidden fruit?

There’s a problem, though. Ruth does not have a hot-blooded mum. Ruth has a pain-in-the-arse mum whose squawking disapproval cranks the taboo up a notch.

All the more reason to take up with the stud! But it means taking on the harpy.

Tensions mount, and even Ruth’s man can’t protect her from the trash-talking voices in her head. It looks like he can’t muzzle his own either. When an earth-shattering revelation causes him to give her grief, it makes her feel like she’s dating her mother.

Taking the kind of advice she doles out to her readers is not so easy, and Ruth wonders if this love can survive. More to the point, is it worth the trouble?

My T(r)oyboy is a Twat

Love, romance, marriage, and a dark little secret. Shh … Small things let loose can grow out of hand.

Ruth Roth’s new husband can’t keep it in. If only he had all those years ago, things might be different now.

His big mouth sends every family member into hell. Except for Ruth’s late mother. She blows in from there. Seems the woman just won’t die. Or let up. Faaaark!

As if Mama’s earbashing isn’t enough, everyone else needs a scapegoat. Ruth is it. Somehow, this mess is her fault.

With everything falling apart, she feels overwhelmed. Until a hunky celebrity pants man—who clearly wants to get into hers—befriends her and makes her feel all warm and fuzzy. At the same time, an educated silicone seductress has designs on hubby.

Temptation abounds. But it’s overshadowed when a startling discovery throws Ruth and her man into uncharted waters, and life comes crashing down.

Ruth has survived plenty with the help of her friends. And as a writer, her wry wit, dirty muse, and a bent for ancient mythology have sustained her. This, though, might be her undoing.

Both of these novels were freaking awesome and hilarious! Paula Houseman seems to always make the perfect blend of humor, sexiness and romance to make one unforgettable romantic comedy novel!😀 I have now read three books by her and have loved every single one. She makes those guilty pleasure novels that being out your wild side and I absolutely love it! I think love and laughter are the best medicines for anyone and you can surely find that in Ms. Houseman’s novels.😊 I can’t wait to see what she comes out with next! Highly recommended for your inner wild side and for a time good laughs. Doctor’s orders!😘🌹

Author Bio – Paula Houseman was once a graphic designer. But when the temptation to include ‘the finger’ as part of a logo for a forward-moving women’s company proved too much, she knew it was time to give away design. Instead, she took up writing.

She found she was a natural with the double entendres (God knows she’d been in enough trouble as a child for dirty wordplay).

As a published writer of earthy chick lit and romantic comedy, Paula gets to bend, twist, stretch and juice up universal experiences to shape reality the way she wants it, even if it is only in books. But at the same time, she can make it more real, so that her readers feel part of the sisterhood. Or brotherhood (realness has nothing to do with gender).

Through her books, Paula also wants to help the reader escape into life and love’s comic relief. And who doesn’t need to sometimes?

Her style is a tad Monty Pythonesque because she adores satire. It helps defuse all those gaffes and thoughts that no one is too proud of.

Paula lives in Sydney, Australia with her husband. No other creatures. The kids have flown the nest and the dogs are long gone.

Since on the last tour I was in of Ms. Houseman’s, I was a bit doom and gloom but thankfully I have good news to share! My page is working better-ish besides notifications after some troubleshooting and also I won’t be evicted as of now and found some work so things are turning for the good slowly but surely! My car is broken down and we are still struggling financially but we are on the right path and that’s what counts!😀💖 I am so thankful for all the prayers and vibes I have received over my rollercoaster/tycoon of a last 6 months but I hope once my internet is fixed I will be able to get into full blogging force! Love ya guys! You’re the BEST!💖

So as most of you know I have had my fair share of battles with WordPress. I tried talking to Akismet and it was a disaster again. I would not get a clear answer and it made me bonkers! Ugh! But anywho, the theme that I currently have up has been giving me loads of issues along with my posts that I am almost finished making delete themselves, scheduled posts disappearing, over half of my comment notifications I don’t receive, my page is slow, and I can’t access your pages half the time.😒 It’s been nuts and even makes me feel like giving up sometimes but I really have the desire and really miss all my friends in the blogosphere so so so much. I want to post my reviews but it makes things so difficult. But I know all I am doing is complaining but if you guys have any current accessibility issues to my site or it takes a long time to load my page vs. Others or do you enjoy my page? Please give me some feedback, lovelies! I really enjoyed the unique setup of my theme but I want other’s feedback and maybe some advice on a background change? Maybe I should try another non gif one but it acts the same for me. But if you guys can offer any feedback and advice that would be amazing! If you find my page enjoyable, I want to fight for it and set my mind to fighting out these glitches and trying to work with WP. You guys are always in my thoughts always and are the bee’s knees!💖

The vapor wafting from the stagnant pool smelled like the rancid rot from inside a carcass. Mark felt he breathed in fire. The gooey surface boiled and foamed as if a prehistoric substance. His heart stopped as something emerged. A goopy and gnarled dome became a sickly face. The eyelids still closed, the rest of the form rose, covered in green.
A tattered dress clung to the feminine curves. The cloth slipped from the shoulders, drawing his attention to her skin. The texture made him gag.
A sour taste of bile filled his mouth. His skin contracted as he contemplated her spongy flesh. Her black eyes sprang open like a demonic doll’s. Her inhuman gaze stabbed his very core, and he knew he was facing a soul-less being. The eyes burned like hot stove burners.
A decomposing hand extended toward his throat.
Mark woke, wet with perspiration. His pillowcase and sheets were damp, as if he’d taken a swim in the fountain. That idea made him unable to breathe. His heartbeat sped along at a rate close to heart attack status as he tried not to blow a gasket about the evil that lie in wait. He whipped his pillow from behind his head and squashed it to his chest. No one would grasp what he’d been feeling—or what he’d been seeing.
His lip trembled.
Something—a fiend, a spirit, the fountain—wanted to hurt him.
Mark’s chest compressed.
The devil on his shoulder advised him that his mother had to be right. All of the metal music, the cartoons, the swearing, had been an invitation for demons and darkness. Forget the fact that none of his friends had ever mentioned opening some gateway to hell. These dark forces had chosen him.
He lied back, exhaustion sinking him deeper into the mattress. After pulling the blood warm sheets up to his chin, he shunned the moonlight streaming into the room. The crooked claws of the branches squealed against the half-open windowpane. Summer’s hot breath puffed into the house. Mark didn’t have to strain to hear its griping—the sighs of the woodwork and the building’s various joints.
The door to the servants’ quarters was open again. However, that bothered him less and less. A perfume of fragrant flowers sent him to sleep.

About the Author

theresa-braun
Hmmm. What’s this? Looks like Ms. Braun left her computer on and her Goodreads bio open.
This should be fun.
What can we say about Theresa? I mean other than the fact that she’s weirdly obsessed with smiley faces :-). Like, seriously obsessed >:-*. It’s kinda scary :-O.
I think she thinks she’s from Renaissance England or Venice or something. I never could figure out which one it was. (She’s really bad at doing accents.)
She likes romance novels and crime TV, which are pretty much the same thing when you think about it. Ha! Am I right?
She has a hell of a singing voice. Seriously. It’s, like, seventh circle of hell bad.
She likes editing. A lot. Just wait till she get’s aload a this.
Cats. Shoes. Chips and salsa. In that order.
Yeah, that last part didn’t make sense to me either.

I looked at that handsome face–those intense eyes, those sensual lips, the angle of his cheekbones and jawline. He was so beautiful, it was easy to let myself get lost in him.
“Have you always been this good-looking?” I blurted out unintentionally.
He shrugged and grinned wider, making my heart and stomach flutter in unison. “Maybe. Have you always been such a fucking mess?”
I smiled. “Maybe.” Then I shook my head. “No. No, I haven’t.”
Once again, he forced me to look at him. “Well, you’re still incredibly tempting either way.”
With our eyes locked, my heart slamming against my rib cage, he leaned in and placed a soft kiss on my lips.

I froze, inhaling his scent-sweet, floral, all mixed with seawater.

I hope everyone has a great day. I might be trying to hop around and put up posts while I am able to. I have some major changes taking place and want to make sure I share the love before I go through them. Love ya guys!❤😍🤗
