Following a family tragedy, 18-year-old Gabe LoScuda suddenly finds himself thrust into the role of caregiver for his ailing grandfather. Between the shopping trips and the doctor visits with Grandpa, Gabe and his friend John try to salvage their senior year, meet girls, and make the varsity baseball team. It doesn’t take long for Gabe to realize that going to school and looking after a grandfather with Alzheimer’s is more work than he ever imagined. And when long-lost Uncle Nick appears on the scene, Gabe soon finds that living with Nick and Grandpa is like babysitting two grown men. Aside from John, the only person who truly understands Gabe is Sofia, a punk-rocking rebel he meets at the veteran’s hospital. When these three unlikely friends are faced with a serious dilemma, will they do what it takes to save Grandpa? If there’s a chance of preserving the final shreds of Grandpa’s dignity, Gabe may have to make the most gut-wrenching decision of his life—and there’s no way out.

What a freakin’ fantastic book! When Mr. Morelli contacted me about “No Sad Songs”, I was going to start taking a break from author requests to help myself catch up and what not. Well, I read the synopsis and saw the book cover and was SOLD!

From the very beginning, I was sucked into the story and so invested in Gabe. He made me laugh and my heart wrenched for him at the same time. I enjoyed seeing him grow as the story was told. I LOVED all the characters in this story including Grandpa! He was a bit wild at times…

Okay maybe not that kind of wild but he was something else!😘 As a caretaker of someone that I love and see the person that they were diminish because of a severe traumatic brain injury, I could relate in many ways to Gabe. I know every single day is a battle and so hard to see someone you love forget what happened five minutes ago and not be able to remember the past you shared. Different illness, same battle.

Reading this story, you can really see how connected the author was to this book and how much he invested in this story with the fantastic descriptions and real emotions. Mr. Morelli wove the perfect blend of emotions and reality to create a remarkable tale that I won’t soon forget. Also I have to add that I loved Sofia!😍🤘 Of course, I would adore an awesome punk rocker chick!😊

I’m so glad that I read this story and I highly recommend putting this one on your TBR!😄📚❤

Frank Morelli and I did an interview and you can find it here. I used one of his answers to tell you a little about him.

ABOUT:

I’m from the Philadelphia area originally, but now I live just outside of Greensboro, NC with my best friend/partner in crime/chief critic, Alexandra, and our crazy gang of cats and dogs. We don’t have any children, but we’re passionate about rescuing animals, so the second we bought a house with a big, wooded backyard we adopted lots of pets. At the moment, we have two doggies (Stan and Brooklyn) and two cats (Jackie and Henry Aaron). Both of us are massive baseball fans, so we named our buddies after some of our favorite players and baseball towns. We spend the vast majority of our time reading, writing, editing, and cooking.

The Hunger Games meets Romeo and Juliet in a stunning debut about a forbidden romance between a young activist and a government employee working for a corrupt bureau that controls the population by deciding who lives and who dies.

Roman Irvine is a disgruntled IT Technician for the Divinity Bureau, a government agency that uses random selection to decide who lives and who dies. In a world where overpopulation has led to pollution, a crippled economy, and a world in crisis, he has accepted the bureau’s activities as a necessity. That is until he meets April McIntyre.

April has every reason to be suspicious of Roman. He works for the Divinity Bureau, which sent her father to an early grave. However, he is also sweet and loyal, and unbeknownst to her, he saved her life. As Roman and April fall deeper in love, the deeper they are thrust into the politics of deciding who lives and who dies. Someone wants April dead. And the bureau’s process of random selection may not be so random after all.

I give The Divinity Bureau by Tessa Clare 5 out 5 of Romantic Dystopian Stars! Wow, what a book! I haven’t read a dystopian novel in a while and after reading this story I will be sure to pick up more for sure. Even though this was a bit of a slow read in the beginning, I was captivated from Chapter One!😄 I fell in love with the characters and loved seeing April and Roman’s romance unfold.

I highly enjoyed how this story was told from a dual perspective and how the plot was nice and solid. The intensity, danger, betrayal and romance made this a YA masterpiece that I won’t soon forget!

This story was action packed and think it would make an excellent film!

I was up late turning pages and was just stunned at how quickly I devoured this novel. My only problem Ms. Clare is that I have to wait for more!

Tessa Clare is the author of The Divinity Bureau. When she’s not writing, she’s an entrepreneur, an activist, a speaker, and the Managing Director of Asset Creative House.

Born in 1992, she began her early career as a concession stand attendant, a busgirl, a barista, a player’s club representative for a casino, and an administrative assistant. She also spent years working as a manager for Vacasa, whose business model and revolutionary marketing strategies would later inspire the groundwork for Asset Creative House.

The Divinity Bureau is Tessa’s debut novel about a forbidden love between a young activist and a government employee working for a corrupt bureau, set in a dystopian world. It was released in 2017.

Book Review: Everything You Wanted to Know About Watergate

I want to thank NetGalley and Riverdale Avenue Books for providing me with an eARC in exchange for an honest review. I appreciate this opportunity.

Book Blurb:

The story of Watergate is usually told through the prism of the straight, white male journalists and politicians who were at the center of the scandal—but Watergate happened to all of us – wives, mothers, children, black, white, queer, immigrants. Those voices and perceptions are rarely heard today.

EVERYTHING YOU ALWAYS WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT WATERGATE was envisioned as a book that looks at the wider ripples of the Watergate explosion and how it changed the way Americans saw themselves, their country and the world around them.

This is both a serious, and irreverent book, put together by a team of two newspaper journalists and ten college interns from throughout the country. Think of it as a primer on Watergate for the generation that grew up watching The Daily Show.

Review: I give this book 4 out of 5 Political Stars! I decided to pick up this title because I wanted to know more about what happened with the Watergate scandal. I am glad I made this choice, not only because this book was very informative but because I was able to hear stories and see perspectives from people who lived through it and were impacted by this scandal. I loved hear everyone’s stories and how it effected our lives and how this changed America. I thought this was a great quick but effective read because a lot of the things that were discussed seems to be repeating themselves in our current political state. Even though I may not have agreed with everyone’s perspective I enjoyed seeing everyone’s and learning more about this treacherous scandal. This period of time woke up a lot of Americans and showed them that we can’t always trust our political leaders.

Review: Wow!!! This book was epically amazing! When first reading this story, I felt it was going to be a simple and cute love story….

You and I belong together, it’s as simple as that. I’ve waited for you my whole life, I’m nothing without you. We’ll make this work, I promise.

I couldn’t have been more wrong! As things progressed I was thrown for twists and turns that I had no clue were coming! I absolutely adored Erica! In so many ways I was Erica. Erica loved others to a fault and felt out of step with her friends.

Annie Woods based this book off of actual life experiences. I was thoroughly impressed and enjoyed this book so much. Annie took her life experiences and weaved through these pages passion and talent creating a Young Adult Masterpiece that I won’t soon be able to forget. First Came Forever made me feel so much emotions and I felt like I couldn’t fathom waiting for the sequel! I give this book 5+++++ royal stars out of 5! I didn’t realize all the feels this book gave me! I couldn’t recommend this book enough! There also was some LGBT+ friendly stuff in here which I enjoyed. If it wasn’t the holidays with sick kids I would have finished this within hours!

Oh and I usually don’t like love triangles but this book had so much more to it than that! I will have to say after a certain incident didn’t sit well with me, I am #TeamTyler but man are my feelings all out of sorts! My only problem is how could you leave us with that ending Annie and make us wait?!! #WorthIT

I also want to do a shout out to Adrienne @ Darque Dreamer Reads for fangirling with me throughout my reading of this book! She just made things even more AWESOME! In the link above and HERE you can find her review of First Came Forever. She also posted a Q & A with Annie Woods with it!

One more thing I wanted to add is that not only was this book awesome so was the author. I was kind of scared that after making friends with Annie that I would hate if I didn’t enjoy this book. Well all of my fears were put at bay when reading this book and realizing it’s now one of my favorites of all time. I can see why Erica is based off Annie and why me and Annie connected! She even sent me a sweet signed copy! Yay! First Came Forever by Annie Woods is highly recommended!🤗💟😁😍💃💝📚

Review: I give this book 5 out of 5 suspenseful stars! The story was split between the victim and the investigator’s POV and I loved that! This book had me up late turning pages and on the edge of my seat. I felt like I could feel the victim and the ivestigator’s emotions in this enthralling thriller. I loved the characterization and this book was very well written. I highly recommend checking out this suspenseful title. Bookouture never lets me down with their suspenseful titles and would recommend all of the books they publish! I loved how the author put this story together!!!

Will Mac be able to figure out whodunit and save his own ass in the process? Read Deadly Spirits by E. Michael Helms to find out!

Review: Wow!!! This book was fantastic and I give it without hesitation 5 out 5 mysterious stars! I had to put this book off for a little bit because I got sick but started reading it last night. I stayed up all night turning pages to this fun mystery until I finished but it was worth the sleepless night! This book made me smile, laugh, gave me the jeepers creepers and warmed my heart. Mac’s character is fantastic! He is the epitome of a southern gentleman.

Mac has his faults but he is such a good hearted southern man. I also thoroughly enjoyed his sense of humor and his love for Kate. I agree with many women in this book that Kate is a lucky woman! I also enjoyed Kate’s compassionate spirit. Dakota was also a fantastic character with her rugged past but a custom personality fitted with mouth of a sailor. I loved the characterization in Deadly Spirits.

I loved how this book had me turning pages and at the edge of my seat with suspense. This was the perfect novel for the Halloween season. Even though Deadly Spirits is Book 4 in the series, you can definitely read this book as a standalone basis. This book gives you just the right amount of details about the character’s past so you don’t feel like your missing something.

I will definitely not be reading Deadly Spirits as a standalone. I can’t wait until I get the chance to devour the rest of this series! I loved your writing Mr. Helms and Mac’s southern chivalrous personality! I will follow you anywhere!😊📚❤
