2. Hanging out with his animal friends.
Unfortunately, Daniel’s animal friends all live at The World’s Worst Zoo, run by the cruel and crabby Mr Gregory.
One day, an unfortunate incident with some ointment at the zoo leaves Daniel with a few special tricks up his sleeve‌—‌tricks that he can use to save the animals, and teach Mr Gregory a lesson.
Curious, witty and sweet, this adventurous chapter book will charm and thrill the young and the young-at-heart!

Gabe says this book was “fun-tastic”! Reading this book was so much fun. I haven’t read but only a couple books this summer even though I am supposed to read more but I really liked this one and read it all at one time. I liked all the animals and the monkey. This was a fun book to read with my Mommy. I think I am going to read MORE now because before I liked games better but this book was cool so I’m going to read more books like this! 5 cool stars!

Mommy’s thoughts: This was an adorable book filled with important fundamentals and great fun! Gabriel has ADHD and can’t concentrate on much not even this review but he surely read this book happily in one sitting so it gets a definite 5+ stars! Very cute and highly recommended!

WordPress Notification Issues And The Cookie Monster

oZitDBn

Hello, my loves!!!💖 I just wanted to let you guys that I don’t know what crawled up WordPress’s arse and made it hate me but I swear I am not ignoring your comments unless you are a spammer. I am supposed to be alerted and notified when someone comments me back or comments on one of my posts. Well… that’s not the case! WordPress let’s me know a few days later sometimes never and I just don’t know how to fix this issue. I tried asking the “Happiness Engineers”, with no response. So I am going with the thought that WordPress is out to get me with it’s craziness and the attack of the cookies. I have noticed how on everyone’s page it wants me to accept and close for cookies but it won’t go away!

Well… Listen here blasted Cookie Monster and said Engineers of Glee, it’s not working out and you guys need a plan. Like a Cookie Monster and Engineer meeting so that we can all live in peace, love and harmony and all that good shit.

Okay enough with the paranoia *puts tinfoil hat away* and rambling on. I just wanted to let you all know I Lovvvvverrrsss your faces and I swear I am not ignoring you. You guys are the bee’s knees. If bees have knees, you simply don’t ignore.

Love ya! Xoxoxo! Also sorry about all the site look changes. I was having battles with my “other selves” on how my blog should look, I guess but I give up. It’s staying the way it is for a good while now. I hope everyone has a spectacular weekend! Over and Out.

New San Francisco is the last city standing on a world ravaged by storms of ash and debris. The city survived by putting the ideals of the American dream on steroids and inspiring its people to persevere, though they have become ruthless in the process. Its citizens are ruled by the General, who has made sure that his people understand that gentleness and pity have become weaknesses that nature no longer tolerates.

Now Steve and Leslie must choose whether they will apply for the General’s once in a lifetime opportunity to “Rise from the Ashes” and join the Inner Circle that rules the city. If they don’t, they will be damned to spend the rest of their lives in the ghettos of Edingburg, a place where virtual reality has become a government-subsidized addiction.

For Steve, the choice is easy. His loyalties lie with the IRA, a revolutionary army led by a voice only known as “Mom.” They are trying to overthrow the General and free the people of New San Francisco from the cruelties of the City Guard. Steve’s mission is to broadcast a recording of a speech that a famous philosopher died to tell. Many thousands have and will perish to get this message out, but is anyone willing to listen?

Every wrist in the stadium beeped. Every boy and girl glanced down at the face of their watch. “00:10” then “:09” then “:08.” Everyone turned their heads to the west. There it was. Right on time, as always. The nightly storm. A wall of blackness had lurched up into the sky, swallowing the setting sun. The hairs on Steve’s neck stood up, urging him to get the hell out
of there.

Instead he grabbed Leslie’s hand, who sat quietly quivering next to him, instinctively pressing her bow into her head for comfort. Steve knew her shaking wasn’t coming from Line’s yelling, the storm, or even the tank pointing at them. Her quivers never came from the barrel of a gun, no, the ragging agony she held within her was the very same thing that pushed him back into the sheets when the sun finally rose—are we going to lose each other?

Leslie’s mind pushed the feeling away for at least another moment. “It’ll be all right,” she whispered. Her brown eyes guided him to the dozens of mortar tubes pointing upward and outward on the vibrant green field and then to the perfect line of churning ash that approached the stands.

“Unity can only be achieved and be maintained when it is the STRONG who come together and fly under one flag! We, like no other in the world, have created a unity that has never broken, has never FLINCHED! When the rest of the world saw THAT—” Line’s long arm pointed at the coming avalanche of black— “They all fell to pieces!”

The earth began to quake as the wall rose over them. Someone screamed. The mortars on the field fired as one at the roiling sky. The blackness spilled over the stadium, then slid over the perimeter of the frizzing wall of static that had encapsulated the field. No Phoenix Cycler had seen—only heard rumors from past Cycle Pref parties—this blackness that was sliding over and them whispering their deaths.

Book Review

I really enjoyed reading this novel. This novel makes you think about disasters that could be possible in this messed up world.  This book was enjoyable to read between other novels and at a slow pace. Reading this book, I started thinking about different concepts and how things in the world really are. I enjoyed the author’s concepts and ideas and found some things definitely relateable. I have to admit that I enjoy thinking about the “What Ifs” and enjoy reading dystopian novels and about some conspiracy theories so when I listened to this book on my kindle, my son’s father just loved it.*tin foil hats in hand, ready to go* He was the one that gobbled it up and read it the most. He is a big fanImage result for dystopian gif of Sy-fy and Dystopian fiction. Some of the things mentioned in this book went over my head a little but this was just an ARC so I am sure there will be tweaks to be fixed but I found that this dystopian  novel quite enjoyable and am excited to see what the author comes out with next. Big thanks for this opportunity to the author and Reads & Reels Blog Tours!

Bob is pretty dope. Firstly, his name is Bob, so…yea. Second, have you seen him rock that suit while in a maximum security prison? Epic.

Yea. That’s Bob. No psychological scarring with that author. Nope. Totally fine.

Gosh he looks good in suits.

Hey Have you read The Phoenix Cycle? He wrote that.

One suggestion before you read it and become one of those fans that leaves him roses by his doormat. Read her slowly. This book is not Twilight. She’s deeper than that. Take your time with her. Show the book you care. Cradle it and make it feel loved. If you do, she’ll be good to you. Go too fast and you’ll have no idea why she’s acting so crazy.

questions-and-answers289951127.png

Will you please tell us a little bit about yourself?

I’m a writer or at least try to be. I have the tendency to fight with the little demon in my head who constantly tells me that I’m not good enough. Besides that, I live with my husband and daughter who support me through all my insanity. I also have a migraine condition and sometimes they are in the form known as hemiplegic migraines which are utterly debilitating.

Can you tell us about one or more of your novels?

I wrote Quinsey Wolfe’s Glass Vault back in 2016 and ended up self publishing. After one of my new books, Clouded by Envy, got picked up by The Parliament House, I submitted Quinsey and the sequel to them in which they picked them up. After the new editing process, Quinsey is now how it should have been the first time. It’s full of retellings because I absolutely love them, and I chose the ones that shaped me as I grew up. Other than Quinsey, another of my books that I co-wrote titled Bacon Pie also just released. It has bacon and pie and some romance.

wp-1526215802146.jpegwp-1525826644957.png

wp-1525827292320.png

Are the characters in your stories that are based off yourself or anyone else?

So, I have two manuscripts I just finished that aren’t published and I put a little of myself in there. I sometimes use moments that have happened in my life and sprinkle that in as well. In Hearts Are Like Balloons, the opening chapter about my dad ending his life is the same way it happened to me, except I wasn’t a teen when it occurred. Writing that book helped me get through things a little more easily.

What has been the hardest part of becoming/being a published author?

Marketing! Also trying to get an agent. I’ve been on a mission for a while now to find one, and I’m hoping eventually one will fall in love with my words.

When did you first start writing stories or any other kind of writings?

I wrote poems a little after my senior year in high school, but I didn’t actually write anything until I wrote Quinsey in 2016 right after my dad died. I figured life is always unexpected, and you can’t sit there and keep waiting to do something about it.

What inspired you to become an author?

I don’t really have a great answer for that. I just always have little images in my head that are waiting to be pulled together into a story. It knocks, knocks, and knocks some more at my head until they are written down.

Did you take writing classes or are you self taught?

No writing classes! I’m sure someone would argue that I need to! Lol!

What is the most difficult part of writing?

Believing that what I’m writing isn’t a big mess. In all honesty, the first draft is most likely always a catastrophe, but then you can go in there and sew it all back together with new words and removing words. Eventually, it all comes together!

What are your hobbies?

Reading and taking care of my daughter. She’s a huge Harry Potter fan so I’m pretty sure that makes Harry Potter my hobby!

Are there any authors that have inspired your love for writing?

I haven’t read a lot of the classics, so it’s mainly YA for me. And that would be Tahereh Mafi and Sarah J. Maas. I just can’t put their books down!

What is your favorite book? I know this can be a difficult question for readers!

The Shatter Me series by Tahereh Mafi and Under the Never Sky series by Veronica Rossi

Can you share with us your favorite literary quote?

It’s not literary lol, but my favorite quote is actually by the singer Jewel back in the 90’s “I’d rather see the world from another angle”

If you could give young writers (who’s dream is to be published) a piece of advice that has anything to do with the writing process, what would that be?

Just keep at it. If you want to get published, it is probably going to take a while, but there is someone out there who will love your work. We all just have to find them.

I was without connection to the internet, have been in the hospital, faced eviction but overall I am still standing!!! Hells to the yeah. I have received so much support this last week in the half from the blogosphere that I have been over flooded with love and emotion. I never thought it was possible that the people that stood by my side through my rough area was the ones through this community. Not that I didn’t think you were amazing, I just felt that maybe everyone was just this awesome to everyone and I felt like an outsider in the blogosphere. I think that my life experiences and how overwhelmed I became was all worth it. I am still struggling but because of everyone who supported me in the blogosphere, I have received some more time and I am going to keep my best. A prank war erupts in Lake Sackett, Georgia and coroner Frankie McCready has to turn to the gorgeous but surly new sheriff for help in Molly Harper’s newest Southern Eclectic novella, perfect for fans of Kristan Higgins and Amy E. Reichert.

The McCready Family Funeral Home and Bait Shop has crickets running rampant in the store and hot sauce in the Snack Shack’s ketchup bottles. But as the county coroner, Frankie has enough on her plate without worrying about the increasingly mean pranks being played at her family’s business. And the arrival of Sheriff Eric Linden, both devastatingly attractive and painfully taciturn, is enough to push her over the edge.

Linden, who didn’t seem to get the memo about men in uniform and Southern charm, is condescending and cold, revealing absolutely nothing about his past as an Atlanta police officer, while also making Frankie’s job as coroner as difficult as possible. And with the town’s Fourth of July celebration coming up, it’s essential for McCready’s to be cricket-free and in good working order. Strangling the sheriff will make her job even harder. Can Frankie hold off the threats to preserve her own sanity?

With her trademark “clever humor, snark, silliness, and endearing protagonists” (Booklist), Molly Harper invites fans to return to the family they first met in Sweet Tea and Sympathy. Y’all sit down and stay a while, won’t you?

Book ReviewI highly enjoyed this fun and southern novella! This was a quick read that I devoured easily in sitting and was desperate for the next in the series to get some answers and it was based off my fave, Frankie McCready! From reading the first book in the series, I really enjoyed Frankie’s character. Frankie is a bit of a misfit and always is rocking some wild fashion statement. She’s a southern rock chick which I can totally relate to that. I can also relate to the fact that she battled something harsh like cancer and still has to deal with people treating her a certain way or not understanding because she was sick a lot. She is also just so freaking hilarious! I love it!
The reason I am not giving this a novella a five star rating is because it just left too much hanging like I don’t even know if you would call it any cliff hangers. I am hoping though that it will all make sense in the next book but overall this was a highly enjoyable read with the unusual McCready southern charm that I never want to miss out on!

Book Review

Wow,  this book was freakin’ hilarious and just fantastic all around!❤📚 I have to admit I pretty much read this book twice even though I have other ARCs I need to finish but in my defense it only took two days! 😀This is one of those stories you can just laugh out loud to and the main character is just freakin’ awesome!  I just needed this story to cheer me up!😊 Poppy is a plus size woman who is trying to get over her grief of becoming a widow and as the story plays out I love watching how she learns to break away from her grief and during her despair she is just freaking hilarious and so realistic. She is such a lovable hot mess that is incredibly relatable. I adored how honest and humorous Poppy was and even though I thought she was a walking disaster at times(which I can relate to 😉), she is the kind of girl you would want to hang out with!

“Sure. And maybe I’ll get a flying unicorn that eats rainbows and farts cupcakes.”
-Poppy talking to her friend, Sawyer.

I loved Aunt Ginny as well. Eccentric old ladies are the bee’s knees! When I become a senior citizen I am going tho be eccentric plus more! I mean, why not? You can totally get away with it. You might as well give people the ‘Wtf face’*cough, cough* I already do that and of course I wouldn’t have a filter like Aunt Ginny doesn’t.

“You girls will be the belles of the ball.” Then added under her breath, Or the talk of the town.” She gave another look at my dress and shuddered. “I need a drink.”
-Aunt Ginny when looking at Poppy’s new dress

Sighs,  one day my dream will come true. I dream of partying like a rock star and then racing my wheel chair. Anyways back to the book, this book even shares the message that we should not be afraid to be who we are and the main character’s personalities are a testament to that and I loved every bit of it.
The plot was at a great pace and it made you want to flip pages like a ninja. The supporting characters were great too and this book was definitely worth the hype! I just can’t wait until the sequel comes out! I can’t recommend this book enough to anyone who loves a great cozy mystery that will make you laugh out loud! Hands down, a 5 star must read!😊❤📚💯

I lived there for nine years, helping start a $500 million business, including a LARKINS (my last name) line of product, finding enlightenment and meditating in Zen temples in the mountains of Hiroshima, meeting Mother Teresa in Calcutta, partying with Bon Jovi, experiencing the death of my business partner and then the loss of my daughter, and all the life lessons that come with the following statement: I Get To do this!

Book ReviewI highly enjoyed this book and am so thankful that I got the experience to read this self help novel! It’s more of a badass self help book that will help you get all that shit done like the title implies! I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a chance to get to be happy!💜 I loved traveling in this novel and along with all these adventures you are given a sense of peace. Welcome to the Ho-Lee Noodle House, where the Chinese food is to die for. . .

The last place Lana Lee thought she would ever end up is back at her family’s restaurant. But after a brutal break-up and a dramatic workplace walk-out, she figures that a return to the Cleveland area to help wait tables is her best option for putting her life back together. Even if that means having to put up with her mother, who is dead-set on finding her a husband.

Lana’s love life soon becomes yesterday’s news once the restaurant’s property manager, Mr. Feng, turns up dead―after a delivery of shrimp dumplings from Ho-Lee. But how could this have happened when everyone on staff knew about Mr. Feng’s severe, life-threatening shellfish allergy? Now, with the whole restaurant under suspicion for murder and the local media in a feeding frenzy―to say nothing of the gorgeous police detective who keeps turning up for take-out―it’s up to Lana to find out who is behind Feng’s killer order. . . before her own number is up.

Book ReviewI really enjoyed this novel and it definitely was one of a kind! I picked up this novel because I worked in a Chinese restaurant for about five years before I became disabled and I became very close to my bosses and was even manager at the end. The reason I bring this up is because not only could I relate to this novel by knowing the ins and outs of working in a Chinese restaurant, I could relate to being around Asian cultures and how they talk. All of the things Lana was told I have been told by my employers. All the funny traits and cultural things just really made me laugh and just think of the good times at my work. I worked 70 hours a week though there had to be some good times or there were no times!
Also another fun fact is that I am actually mixed racial like the main character and my mom is Filipino so I have also felt I could relate to some things family life as well! But enough about me back to the book!
This story was funny and I think turned out pretty great for a debut. I loved all the characters besides every once in awhile the MC got on my nerves a little bit. The plot was steady paced but had a couple of short dull moments but I think it was because of the author establishing a solid background for the series. Overall, I really enjoyed this book and I look forward to the next one and hope it grows even more as it moves along!

Thanks so much for checking out my book reviews, lovelies! I am sorry you guys haven’t seen me around as much as you use to but that is going to be changing soon! Woot! I know some things on my blog look different and some things are out of place but it’s because I am changing things up a little and trying to get back in my groove. Things are under a little bit of what you would call “maintenance” because I am setting up a new look and starting a newsletter and such. I don’t know a specific schedule yet but you know that this girl is too much of a free-spirit for a schedule anyways. Well… I miss all of your faces and I couldn’t be more thankful for all of you! I can’t wait to check out all of your talented blog posts. Woot! xoxo!

Manipulated Lives

Five stories – Five Lives

Have you ever felt confused or at a loss for words in front of a spouse, colleague or parent, to the extent that you have felt inadequate or, worse, a failure? Do you ever wonder why someone close to you seems to endure humiliation without resistance?  Manipulators are everywhere. At first these devious and calculating people can be hard to spot, because that is their way. They are often masters of disguise: witty, disarming, even charming in public – tricks to snare their prey – but then they revert to their true self of being controlling and angry in private. Their main aim: to dominate and use others to satisfy their needs, with a complete lack of compassion and empathy for their victim.   In this collection of short novellas, you meet people like you and me, intent on living happy lives, yet each of them, in one way or another, is caught up and damaged by a manipulative individual. First you meet Tess, whose past is haunted by a wrong decision, then young, successful and well balanced Sophie, who is drawn into the life of a little boy and his troubled father. Next, there is teenage Holly, who is intent on making a better life for herself, followed by a manipulator himself, trying to make sense of his irreversible incarceration. Lastly, there is Lisa, who has to face a parent’s biggest regret. All stories highlight to what extent abusive manipulation can distort lives and threaten our very feeling of self-worth.

I absolutely loved this book and how each of the five stories brought a unique group of characters and a steady paced plot to keep you hooked from start to finish. I’m going to be honest, I devoured this whole book in one night and stayed up all night with it! #WorthIt!

I really enjoyed the different backgrounds of each character and how it brought a fresh perspective to the table for every one of the five stories. I became heavily invested in the characters and I ended up scrolling through my kindle as fast as I could so that I could discover the twists and outcome. Out of all the stories, I really adored Tess and Tattoos. It was a bittersweet story but like the rest of the novellas, it really made you think of the effects that abuse has on someone and what they all go through.

As a woman who has been in a couple of emotionally abusive relationships, I really felt Tess’s pain but in the same sense I felt her joy!💖 Even though I faced abuse throughout my life, I thankfully didn’t find these psychological dramas a trigger. This beautiful collection of novellas are full of depth, heart-wrenching and heartwarming moments that I am sure many readers will love! I highly recommend these stories and am excited to see what the author comes out with next!

I vow to finish every book that I receive because when a publishing company or an author sends me an advanced copy they are giving me a golden opportunity. I am given the opportunity to read a book that would have costs me a good bit of money for free and they could have given the opportunity to another blogger. I have never reviewed a book as a DNF and stand by my standards to do everything in my power to not have to do this again. I also wanted to let the readers know ahead of time that I did not get past the first 2 chapters so I can’t give you the best of knowledge of this story. I only did not finish because of triggers. The writing and word building was great but I could not get past the triggers. I feel I need to post my review not only to share my honest opinion but to give some a warning because the triggers for me caused panic. I also want to genuinely apologize to the publisher and author for not finishing this story. It had nothing to do with your writing or this book. My review is simply because of my own personal triggers.

SynopsisA powerful novel about a gutsy showgirl who tries to conquer her past amongst the glamour of 1960s Las Vegas–and finds unexpected fortune, friendship, and love.

It was unimaginable. When she was eight years old, Lily Decker somehow survived the auto accident that killed her parents and sister, but neither her emotionally distant aunt nor her all-too-attentive uncle could ease her grief. Dancing proves to be Lily’s only solace, and eventually, she receives a “scholarship” to a local dance academy–courtesy of a mysterious benefactor.

Grown and ready to leave home for good, Lily changes her name to Ruby Wilde and heads to Las Vegas to be a troupe dancer, but her sensual beauty and voluptuous figure land her work instead as a showgirl performing everywhere from Les Folies Bergere at the Tropicana to the Stardust’s Lido de Paris. Wearing costumes dripping with feathers and rhinestones, five-inch heels, and sky-high headdresses, Ruby may have all the looks of a Sin City success story, but she still must learn to navigate the world of men–and figure out what real love looks like.

With her uncanny knack for understanding the hidden lives of women, Elizabeth J. Church captures both the iconic extravagance of an era and the bravery of a young woman who dances through her sadness to find connection, freedom, and, most important, herself.

Book ReviewI am sorry but I had to DNF this book not because it was bad but because there were some really big triggers for me. Honestly, I can’t sleep tonight because the scenes keep running through my head. I usually can handle talk about these triggers but it went to a detail that caused me to hyperventilate. This is totally just a me thing. I know that many others love this book and it’s highly recommended. The triggers were just way too intense for me to sit through. There are triggers of an animal death and intense childhood abuse scenes. I’m sure this book was great and many others have enjoyed it, I just can’t finish it because of some recent trauma that I have experienced. I don’t know how to rate this story because I couldn’t get past the first chapters without a panic attack but it was well written and think many will enjoy so my lack of stars is not personally against the book it is because I don’t feel I can rate something properly that I didn’t read. I’m sorry that I haven’t been active today or last night. I just didn’t realize the possible effects that a book could have on you this extent. If you’re not triggered by these events than I would suggest you checking it out for yourself.
